FOR LADIES ONLY

I have a friend who had a LBL (full TT and Thigh lift) and now her hooha s deformed. She says the skin tightening caused her labia to permanantly pull apart so when she gets undressed in front of her husband, she says it looks like an open mouth and she is more self-concious now that before.

Is this common? I'm considering a thigh lift and tummy tuck but I don't want to have a permanantly open hooha... has this happened to anyone?

I didn't have that same procedure so I can't comment on that...

However, I'm wondering how she can SEE that when she's simply getting undressed. Mine is between my legs and not really visible unless I spread 'em!

My surgeon warned me of this. He said that the thigh lift incision needs to be a few inches distal from the groin/thigh fold to avoid it. Of course, if the skin is pulled too tight it's pretty easy to reason this could be a consequence as well.

I had an extended vertical abdominoplasty in Jan and I felt a pulling on my labia but this has resolved since the swelling has subsided somewhat.

I had the LBL.  Things moved, but it's not quite as drastic as what seems to have happened to your friend.

Well, I'm not a lady but can I have pass ? Trust me, I'm  a doctor.

Labial splaying or separation is  known complication of inner thigh lift, and it's one of the reasons I do not like to combine LBL + TL.  The problem comes from the fact that the tissues in the groin area naturally stertch, and when you "hang"  the thigh skin while doing the lift, you can cause separation of the labia.

The shorter scar thigh lifts most commonly cause this, as they result in a pull directly downward.  They are only good for very small lifts.  The LBL incision pulls upward and can make the problem worse, ans also make incision placement more difficult.  After you do the LBL, youe inner TL markings get very distorted.

The other issue is the placement of the deep sutures.  The skin cannot be sewn to the skin, but instead needs to be sewn to the deeper layers of the pelvic fascia...this area has true holding power and can help prevent separation.

The biggest issue in prevention is choosing the proper procedure to match the deformity, and not aksing too much of a short scar incision.

The defomity can usually be improved but it may require more surgery.

I just had a simple pannis done a week ago today and the PS said that he was going to try to lift soome of the skindown there.  He did and it does look funny to me, however, how many of us have actually ever seen "down there" LOL..not me and I guess it must look "normal" now!!
