I can not seem to find any information or percent of women that can not breastfeed after breast surgery. Can anybody tell me of a website or have any experience where after breast surgery they were unable to breast feed.

thank you in advance!

My surgeon indicated that a breast lift would not impede the ability to breast feed in the future.  I wasn't interested in implants so I do not know if that may cause an issue even where the lift would not.

I would also ensure that you tell the surgeon that you hope to breast feed in the future and to please be careful around your milk ducts. I know several gals IRL who had reductions pre-children. Most were ok to breastfeed afterwards - one had to supplement/pump but that can happen to many even with no surgery pre-children.

Best of luck!

You might want to contact your local La Leche league - they are extremely knowledgeable about breast feeding and can offer you advice.

I breastfed my second child for nearly a year with no problems. When He was about 2 yrs old I had a breast lift and implants. At the time I thought I wouldn't have any more children.  3 yrs after my breast surgery I had another son. I tried to breastfeed but my milk was not nearly enough. When my baby was 7 weeks old I stopped. One of my breast doesn't have much nipple sensation and that boob didn't produce almost any milk. 4 years after that I had another son. Again I tried to breastfeed. Had the same issue. This time I started taking domperidone and was able to breastfeed, but from only one breast (the one with normal nipple sensation). I breastfed my 4th child for 15 months on one boob :). I wanted to breastfeed him no matter what, and now I need to be re lifted :( but it was worth it. If I would have known I was going to have 2 more children, I would have waited for the lift.... btw I was told by my plastic surgeon that I would be able to breastfeed, but that really wasn't true. Without that supplement I would not have been able to breastfeed my last son normally.                             Brandi

I'm so glad you posted your experience. There are so many women asking about breastfeeding but don't get many responses from those who have been there done that.
