How did you choose a surgeon out of the USA?

How did you research and choose your plastic surgeon?  How can I find out if complaints have been made against surgeon if I don't read the language on the web pages?  Just curious how you really started this search and what I need to know to avoid the horror stories.  I know there are good ones out there. I appreciate any advice you can give.

I think you will be happy if you research Dr Sauceda.
 I emailed him, discussed what I was interested in getting done, emailed some pictures and after some more discussion he emailed me a price and that was it.
His website has prices but when he combines it saves you money.
We set a date, I purchased my plane ticket, that became my deposit, which he deducted from his fee, and I went to Monterrey, Mexico.
I just had a face neck and arm lift by him a month ago, $ 8500. all inclusive including up to $600. airfare.
 Hotel,compression garments, surgery, hospital stay, etc.
Only money I spent was on what little food I ate. Breakfast is included at the Hampton Inn
 While i was there for 12 days, 7 OH members came and went as well.
You feel comfortable when your OH family is there.
. Check him out. He is a specialist in weight loss surgery PS patients.
He has a great and warmth and caring manner.  
 There is an OH message board called Dr.Sauceda patients, It has a world if info on the stickies.

Bard, Did you consider another other surgeons outside of the US for your surgery?

Not really, I had meet him at a pre-weight loss surgery seminar given by Dr. Alvarez in San Antonio March of '08 Although I was there for Dr. A I learned a bunch then, I even meet and saw some of his patients and saw first had some of the fantasic results..
I hadn't really thought too about PS and had concentrated on my weight loss, and then when all the skin stared to hang and it had reached close to goal and stabilized,
I got on the OH PS message board and started investigating and reading people's post and Dr. Sauceda's name keep coming up.
I looked back in my notes and thought I've meet this guy!
 The more research I did the more I liked and then when I read all the blogs and he had such a strong following,
I contacted him and liked what he said. I am very happy and can't wait to get the rest done hopefully later this year or early next. Bard

Thanks, Bard.  He is one I have been looking at and so far, quite impressed.  I just wondered what all to consider with out of country research.  I have to have my husband on board too and can't believe I am considering a different country! 

Yes it is a tough decision to consider going out of the country.  There is no legal recourse using doctors in Mexico.  Their laws are totally different.  With that being said,  it did not stop me or slow me down.  I did my homework and read for months about Dr. S.  My local consults were just absurd and I knew I was only doing 1 surgery.  Good luck and keep reading.  If you have issues he will do revisions from what I understand.  My implants came with bar codes and warranty also.

I am paying $ 9,000.00. I am having an extended tt with lipo & muscle repair, BA, arm lift & lipo to my thighs.

I have been in contact with many others that have been to the clinic - they have their own forum on Yahoo & I have talked on the telephione with some who have just returned.

The recovery inn I'm staying at for 2 weeks following the surgeries has a nurse 24/7. If I need a doctor immidielaty - I will meet them at the clninc - they are 15 minutes away & we have their cell numbers.

My PCP here in CA is supporting me - she did my pre-op lab work, EKG & physical. I will be seeing her the week we get back for a follow-up.

I had gastric bypass in Bogota, Columbia.  Do they have a site that I can check out.  Is there references you can refer me to so I can communicate with them as well?  I see you listed the price but my question is does it include the airfare to and from the states, MD price plus the stay where you are?  Please elaborate.
