Hi all,
I am having a revision on my brachioplasty and excision of the flanks. My surgeon will be cutting me vertically from my side area (where your jean**** up to below the bra). This will remove my flank skin. For the arm revision, I believe the entire brachioplasty scar will be fixed because I have since had lipo on my arms and there is more skin to remove.

I am just asking opinions because I know it varies patient to patient....my Surgery is Friday. June 25 at 7:30. He said it is a 6 hour surgery. Ya think I could make one of my daughter's softball games that weekend? She is in a tournament about 20 minutes from the house. I am not going to change my appointment based on her tournament schedule....since she has 5 from Memorial day to June 25.

Thanks for your opinions!

I think it is a bunch of wishful thinking! Heee heeeee! :-) I am hoping that the arm surgery will be a breeze.....and that it won't be anything like the first time!

My 2nd brachio was easier than the first HOWEVER he did re-cut my armpits and that was not fun....especially the first few days, I had very limited use of the arms.  I stretched to far to turn the light off on my night table and popped the line of stitches in my armpit!  So you have to be careful.
I'm thinking your flanks will be real sore....

For you two - as you have had the brachioplasty - for the first several days - do you hold your arms down at your sides - or out in the air - away from your body?

I am worried about getting an infection in the arm pit (warm, moist place) & think if I hold them out - they will stay dry, Keeping the elbows bent of course.

Thanks!!

Hey there,
Sorry I am jumping in late here----just got home from a long day.

I felt my brachioplasty was my toughest surgery. I don't know if it is because I also had  my armpit and chest skin taken out or if it was just the brachioplasty. I had a tough time moving my arms to my side. I remember that night when I got home, I couldn't move my arms enough to scratch my forehead or wipe my rear (Sorry to be so descriptive). My husband had to do it! By the end of the second day, I could move them a bit more, but it was a good 3 weeks before I felt comfortable washing my hair and reaching.

I am having this surgery again....more skin removed and scars fixed. I really contemplated whether or not I should, because as I said, it was the worst surgery yet and I have had several. But, if you can get through the first week, the rest will be fine!

I hope I am not scaring you! Ask away if you need to!

You will definitely keep them apart some especially if you have ace bandages because you can't have them close or your sides anyway. You'll find having your armpits closed will be uncomfortable and sore at first and your incisions may rub on each other depending on the location. It doesn't last long thankfully.

Hi Kim,

My similar type surgery was on Saturday, Oct 31 - Yep Halloween.  I don't remember much about Saturday, but I could have done some moving on Sunday.  Not much, but propped up sitting would have been OK for a few hours.  You might have to play it by ear, but it could have been a possibility.
