questions about drainage
So I had my panniculectomy on 4-19 and had one drain removed last week and an appt to get the other one out tomorrow. Iam still getting about 120 ml draining in a 24 hour period, is this normal? Do you all think it should stay in longer? It is still bright red bloody the color or consistancy has not changed from the first day. I thought I had read on here that the fluid usually changes color? Mons area is still pretty swollen and bruised but the incision is healing nicely. Upper thighs still have some bruising but it is fading. I will post another pic soon but you can see my others on my profile if you havent already. Thanks for any input.
Please call your doctor. Your drainage should not still be bright red; it should be straw colored by now. It also is quite a lot for the length of time you've been post-op. I worry that you might have a slowly bleeding area.
Please call your doctor.
Did you call them about the swelling?

I had the panni removal last Thursday, the 29th. I still have both drains. Getting about 80 ml. in 24 hours from both. One drain just a little less. I see the surgeon tomorrow. With one drain removed....has there been changes in the other? Maybe one is compensating for two...any way the surgeon is the expert. Lots of opinions on this forum...the expert's is the only one that really counts. GOOD LUCK
I agree with the previous poster that there are LOTS of opinions on this site; however, I want to encourage you again to get in contact with your DOCTOR. I am a nurse and I am very surprised to hear of someone two weeks out still having BLOOD RED drainage of that amount.

There have been plenty of people that have had their drains from 3-5 weeks on here so that may not be totally unusual. I don't know about the color though. I would think by now it should be changing colors but I'm no expert. I'd ask your surgeon and see what he says.

I will be calling them in the morning. I have an appt tomorrow afternoon to get the last drain removed but I don't think they will remove it since still so much drainage. The color being blood red still concerns me especially since my hematocrit was 26 when I left the hospital after 2 units of blood. I asked about it at my last appt a week ago when they took the one drain out because I thought they should check it again and he said well you have color in your face and if you aren't dizzy its fine. Last nite I was dizzy so I think they should check it again. Draining 129 mls of blood red drainage every 24 hrs. Thank you all for your input and responses I appreciate it. will update you all.
