How long after weight loss
I had RNY on september 29th 2009. I have gone from 327 to 233 in 7 mo. I am currently in a stall that has lasted 7 weeks!!!!! My skin on my belly is sagging big time and is uncomforatble to run or walk fast for that matter. I dont have alot of sagging in my legs and moderately in my arms. My question is when were you able to have plastic surgery to remove the skin??? I want to do it sooo BAD NOW but I dont know if my surgeon will let me. I can literaly pick up my belly and hold it in my arms. There is so much skin already. Im afraid that it is all skin and that I wont be able to loose any more weight until I get this skin off! Any suggestions would be wonderful!!! Thanks!!!
How much more weight do you plan to lose before calling yourself at "goal"?
Most PS want their patients to be at the weight they plan to sustain for 6 months before undergoing plastics.
Unless you plan on staying in the 200's, I'd encourage you to wait a bit. Otherwise, you may end up having it done a second time OR wishing you had waited.
GOOD LUCK.

I have BC/BS....I had to be 18 months post op, 6 months stable weight to be considered for insurance payment for the panni removal. I had my surgery last Thursday. I think being at goal is the best. I wouldn't want to have more saggy skin...when you can have the best results by waiting. Good luck with approvals.
Well my PS wouldn't evern work on anyone that wasn't at least a year out. I waited ywo years the weight loss is os unpredictable for the first year that you have to wait until the body has finished adjusting and you are at your ideal weight or with in a few pounds...

I think you are too early out from WLS to have surgery. As everyone has posted you should be around 6 months at goal weight before you have plastics. You are still within your weight loss window so just be patient. I know how hard that can be though!

I understand your frustration. However, as others have said it's too early. I had my RNY in 2001 and my weight was 349. I lost about 110 lbs or so in a year and a half. Life happened, a bit of weight crept back on, with the help of Weigh****chers I got my mojo back and continued on down between 156-160.
I spent 6 months trying to get down to 145 but could not do it. Out of frustration I talked to my PCP. After an exam, waist measurement, body fat measurment confirmed that I'm done with losing weight.
My plan for plastic surgery was to be a year at my goal weight before I'd have surgery. So now a year is up and I'm scheduled for 5/28. I would not have done this any other way. I need to know in my head that I can maintain the weight loss before trying to use plastic surgery as a means to weight loss.
The amount of skin that you think you'll lose to plastic surgey is not as much as you may think. My surgeon is estimating mine to be at about 15 lbs - but that's everything - LBL, thighs, arms, sides and breasts.
If you look around you may find a plastic surgeon who will do whatever you want - but do you want whatever you want or do you want what's best for you? Sometimes, they're not the same thing.
Be patient and carefully review everything you're doing to lose weight. There are compression garments you can get at sporting good stores for runners that will help keep you in place.

Be aware you may not want to read this if you get grossed out.
It really depends. I had my lapband surgery in March 2009 and have lost over 160lbs. I am having rash issues where I am one of the cleanest people I know, however no amount of cleaning does the trick. I workout a lot, but its funny I don't get issues from the workout..no its usually when I am siting ugh.
I'm going on Thursday for my consult and have been being treated for skin rash issues which can get worse. I've used OTC creams, barriers between the folds, prescription creams, and then oral antibiotics. And it just keeps coming back again and again.
Its depressing to be honest. I feel yuckie and gross and there is not a darn thing I can do about it. I've managed this long, but it burns.
I'm not ashamed of it of course, because I do all the right things. But I had every intention to hold off for a while, but my panni might be a lot larger than others seeing I was at 378lbs.
So the doctor's think it may be the only solution to get rid of the skin to address the chronic issues that can actually turn into a lot bigger issues.
Aetna covers the procedure if you have documented issues month over month (which I have for almost a year). Just picked up my letter and documentation and it hangs below the pubis region.
Everyone says what size do you want to be? I am like a healthy one. I take a few pounds at a time, but if we continue to wait to remove I could end up with some serious skin issues. In fact, it has happened so often you can see the discoloration from the scaring.
But again, we'll see what the surgeon states.
