I had a TT 10 months ago and the surgeon took 5 lbs off. I only saw that on the scale for a couple days. Now I am 10 lbs heavier and having alot of swelling in my legs which I have had since the begining of my recovery. It's bad enough I can dent 1/4' by pushing my finger into my shin! What the hell is going on? Did anyone else experienc any swelling in the legs like this? I can't even wear some pants, I think because of the swelling. My tummy isn't swolen any more but the Ken doll is in full effect. HELP PLEASE!

 Aloha Jessie-
Have you had a check up by your PCP, or a follow up by your surgeon?
Was it a straightforward frontal tummy tuck with no thigh lift, no mons work, etc?
There are other causes of edema that have nothing to do with surgery ( heart, liver or kidney disease leading to salt retention or low protein levels , circulatory problems of the veins themselves like inflammation or clots, etc). Certain hormonal diseases like thyroid problems can cause the actual skin to thicken over the shins, and it's not  a pitting edema but thickened skin called myxedema.
I seem to retain water now only when I get my period- never noticed the 2-3 lbs of water weight gain when I was 330, but I can sure tell now at 132! I don't eat alot of salt or processed stuff, but certainly at our lower weights that would have more of an impact than it did before.
Seeing your doctor would be the first step. XOXOLori

Pertty much just the TT with a mon lift too. mo thigh work but my incision goes hip to hip. I am going to see the dr today. I have gained 5 lbs over night and I can tell it's water because last night it was all in my legs and after sleeping my face is puffy. This sucks!

Did you or do you wear any kind of compression garment?
After my TT I had no real swelling in my TT, it all landed in my thighs and butt.  By day 5 I was miserable so I put myself into a compression garment that went to my knees.  Within about 3 days most of the swelling was gone.  I wore it for a full 3 months and then had my LBL....I had a little swelling with that but once I got into a smaller compression garment it went away.

Did you have any lipo done with your TT?  Lipo makes it much worse.....the swelling takes a very long time to go away....it can pretty easily last a year....

If you don't have a compression garment you can try Compression Pantyhose 20/30 mmhg.  I'm currently using them to control swelling in my calfs and ankles after my Inner Thighplasty last month.  They are really helping.

Hope you get some relief real soon!

I had to wear the binger for the first few months then nothing. Yes, I had a small amount of lipo in the hip area to make sure the scar didn't pucker at the ends. I feel like most of my swelling is there and in the legs, not so much in the tummy. I'll have to give the panty hose a try, my Dr did give me some diuretics and is running a throid test too. Thanks!

The Binder only puts compression on the tummy......that's why you have little to no swelling there.

Seriously get yourself a binder or medical compression hose (not support hose like you can buy in the dept store....you have to go to a drug store or medical supply place).

FYI - I'm shocked that the surgeon gave you diuretics for this....that is a very temporary solution but I'm glad they are checking the throid.

I hope you feel better.

It's not my surgeon, just my reg. doc. I went in yesterday because I gained 8 lbs in 2 days and I was having chest pain. Dr. says the're not related, thank God. No heart attack. I think I hurt my back/shoulder blade at the gym and the pain is radiating through my chest. My face was even swolen in the am.
If I get compression hose where will the water go? To my upper body or will it get pushed out? LOL

OMG, so glad you went to your PCP quickly.

LOL On where the water goes......no it won't go up passed your thighs, the lymph system in the thighs will pick it up and pu**** out.  In other words you will be pee'ing A LOT..

Feel better.
FYI - I know from experience that the water pill only helps temporarily and I also know the medical compression hose help with the swelling in legs, calfs, ankles.  I hope you give it a try but again you can't just wear them a couple of days....It took about 4 days this time for my swelling to go down and took the hose off for 2 days and got all swollen again so I put them back on and now keep them on every day even though the swelling is gone.  I'll test the waters again in about 5 days.  It's fun living in the compression garment and compression hose but I know it is helping and improving the way I am healing so I can do it...it's only a few months and I hope to have many, many years to enjoy my new body (that's why I want the best results!).
