Pissed about my arms & the golf balls at my elbows (Briacha

I went to the doctor today.  I had briachoplasty surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago and my stiches are ripped in  my armpits.  I asked him about the golf balls at my elbows because the arms are okay but there are golfball sized puckered skin at my elbow is not.

He said, "If I'd done lipo you would not have that and your arms would be somewhat smaller."  I asked him why did he not mention this to me prior to the surgey because my insurance did pay for my arms and probably would have paid for lipo.
His response,"insurance does not pay for lipo."
My response, "You should have told me in advance, if they would not pay for it I would have. You told me insurance would not pay for my arms but they did."
His response, "Well we can't do any thing right now, some of this is swelling.  We can look at something later."

He then left the room and his nurse came in.  She has been the nurse that I've worked with for the last two surgeries (Breast, TT) my other surgeon left the practice and this one was recommended because he studied under the previous surgeon.  I tell her what's going on and how I feel.  She goes and talks  to him and returns with a message that he'll do a revision in three months to correct the dog ears (golf balls).  She gave the impression that this could be done in his office.

I'm still pissed because this surgery was painful, I've been off from work for 3 1/2 weeks and my insurance is changing to a new company CIGNA May 1.  Although, my benefits under the former company will be extended until I'm released from the dr I'm still PISSED.

If you are having briachoplasty...ASK and get the facts so you won't be like me.

TJay,
So sorry you didn't get the results you want.
If you were here this time last you'll remember I was screaming the same thing.  I was so disappointed with my results and when my surgeon at the time (I know have a different one), said ""he could have lipo but the swelling would have been worse" I almost screamed.
Anyhow, long story short after a revision by the original surgeon which he didn't do what he was supposed to do I walked away and found a new surgeon who just fixed my arms and now I love them!!!

Hang in there if you want it corrected it can be done, I'm living proof of that but it is annoying to have to do things more than once and to pay extra (I ended up having 3 procedures and the arms cost me about $10,000!)

Best wishes!!

Thanks  Moosie:

I can't believe this.  When I went to this guy he was so shocked about insurance covering the procedure, so I expected good results.  The dr he studied under moved 6 hours away an I intially made an appointment with him but to mae it easier on my familiy I went with a dr in the area.

Was the pain the second time as bad and was the healing time the same?

I get the feeling that some dr's are seeing us as cash cows.  Recent statistics are saying that because of the economy the number of procedures have decreased so are we being used to make up this shortfall?

The healing after my 2nd brachio (which was just done 4.5 weeks ago) was not as bad as the first BUT because he did cut my armpits again I was a bit sore and have restrictions on what I can do.  I also popped a small area in my right armpit so I was taking it extra slow for a while.  But overall it didn't seem as bad as the first time.  Of course it could be because I had so much going on with my inner thighs at the same time that maybe I didn't focus on the arms....

I'm so glad I found my current surgeon.  He's done such a GREAT job on my Tummy Tuck, LBL, Inner Thighs and fixing my arms.  I love my surgeon!!!

Hi Tjay ~

This site has been so helpful for me. I am having an arm lift the end of May - and I have asked for lipo - & a lot of it.

When I hold my arms at a 90 degree angle - like when you are typing on a key board or getting your nails done - you can see the fat pockets at the elbows. I do not want that & told my PS so - he said he will do lipo.

I hope you get the results you want soon!!
