Ripped stiches in armpits after briachoplasty
I had a briachoplasty 2 1/2 weeks ago. Arms are healing okay. But my underarms (arm pits) have huge open wounds you can see the white of the flesh inside. In the right arm approx 4 inches and about 2 inches in the left arm. Very uncomfortable, today I put some antibiotic oinment on it and put a sanitary napkin under my arm.
I see there are others that had this surgery done recently, how are your wounds healing. Does anyone else there have open wounds in the arm pit areas.

Have you told your surgeon about this?
I had this happen in one armpit and was told to put butterfly bandages on it. It healed beautifully.
You really should call your surgeon....he/she may want to stitch it closed.

I had that happen in the right pit. Not as big though. I was told to keep it clean (emailed a good pic of it to the dr) and watch for signs of infection. He wasnt too worried about it and sure enough it closed up on its own. I would call the dr and see what he/she says. Good luck!

i had an arm lift, inner thigh lift and upper back lift done 5 weeks ago and although the arms and back healed just fine, I had and still have several open areas on my inner thighs and groin. Yes, I will agree that it is very uncomfortable but my doc has me doting exactly what you are doing: keep the open incisions clean, apply antibiotic ointment and cover with sanitary pads. I keep the pads in place with the ace bandages. They are healing more and more everyday. It just takes time. Eating a lot of protein helps in the healing process too!
I had the hardest time with mine because all Dr. S had for me, being a man for a compression garment was Ace Bandages, Horrible they would roll up and I would get raw and finaly got an infecton.
When I ordered on line my own compression sleeves they came in but were too small and still didn't address or cover the pits so I went to a sports store and bought a Under-Armour compression shirt for Summer. I works great because although it still is tight in the arm pits it doesnt roll and they wick out moisture. I bought another so I could change them daily.
