Hi everyone...
Well I just found out about my surgery date on Thursday night when I came home from work and my boss was off on Friday.
So tomorrow i will need to tell him about my upcoming TT on May 12th.
Im just concerned that he might give me an attitude since we are sooooooo busy at work during this time of year and that I will be out of the office for 2 weeks or more.
At work, I am the "to go girl" everyone comes to me for computer help and phone calls and office supplies. I don't want him to think that I'm picking a wrong time to do this. If i don't do it now that I was approved and everything is taking care of.....when will i do it? It's always not a good time to take time off at work. That is why I don't want to tell them what type of surgery I am having. Just sergery!!!!

Any Advise? Tomorrow!!!

You don't need to tell them what type of surgery you are having.  When I had my tummy tuck all I told my boss was that I was having abdominal surgery.  Most people(men and women) assume you are having "female trouble" and don't ask for specifics.  Nobody in my office asked what type of abdominal surgery I was having.  I took 2 weeks off and when I came back people just asked if everything went as planned and what lifting restrictions I was on.

Thanks Tazfan...

Im just so worried that they are going to go bananas because im thee girl and we're busy, but I think I will use this. I can't move it a month, because it will never be a good time to have it done.

Thank you.

They could call you if they needed info. It's 2 weeks. Technically you need longer so take it easy when you go back!

They have no legal right to know what type of surgery you are having; I would simply tell him you are taking off two weeks to attend to some medical issues and prefer not to go into specifics as the issue is of a personal nature. If he's a typical male he will assume it's female stuff and be embarrassed to ask anything more.

If he asks "why now", tell him it is because this is when the medical team whose help you need is available to tend to you. If asked can you postpone, a simple "no" will suffice; and perhaps remind him how there will never REALLY be a convenient time at the office.

You will be fine.

Congrats on getting your date.

I would simply say "I  need to have surgery and the surgeon called to say they have me scheduled on May 12th.  I know no time is a good time but I'll need to take XX weeks off to recover".

You don't have to say what surgery you are having or why you it has to be now.

If it were me -- I would not send the email until after I had spoken with him.  If he gets the email before you speak with him he has the opportunity to come up with a list of objections.  If it were me,  I would simply discuss it with him -- get it settled and then send the email to document the conversation and confirm the plan.

I agree with redhaired...no email until AFTER your conversation.

GOOD LUCK!

Hi Ladies!!!
Update!

I did it! I told my boss! He was very understanding and he told me that my health comes first. I didn't give him any information just that due to all my doctor's appt. that the surgeons have determined that I need surgery and that it was already scheduled for May 12th.
