Abdominoplastie vs tummy tuck
To clarify, abdominoplasty and tummy tuck are the same procedure but tummy tuck is sometimes confused with a panniculectomy. Both procedures remove excess hanging fat and skin. The main difference is the adominoplasty tightens the muscles as well as removal of the excess skin and fat.
However, it is important to note that most insurance companies consider the adominoplasty cosmetic. These procedures may also be performed with another adominal surgery such as hysterectomy, hernia, abdominal wall repair.
The procedure can be done by a plastic surgeon and some bariatric surgeons also do this procedure typically nine months to one year, perhaps longer, after bariatric surgery.
Also note that if your insurance does not cover the panniculectomy but you have to have another procedure done (e.g. hernia) you might be able to pay a relatively small additional amount since the doctor is "already in there" so check it out. You might also possibly be able to pay the doctor for the additional muscle tightening if desired.
