I'm sure your surgeon will have detailed instructions for you, but a few things I'm glad I didn't have to live without:
--someone to help me change my compression garment the first time
--stool softners; you may also want to have a gentle laxative on-hand just in case
--a recliner to sleep in the first few nights
--pillows to prop myself up when sitting on the couch or in bed
--straws: it's hard to drink when reclining without them; I didn't have them and wish I did
--lotion: my surgeon gave me a special lotion; but I can't imagine how bad the incisions would be pulling without the lotion all over my belly and breasts twice a day!
--gauze pads: when they remove your drain, the opening may still leak a few days until it's fully healed, so you'll want to have plenty of these to cover it loosely during that time
--chapstick
--lots of things to drink: it was amazing to me how my tight tummy really limits how much I can eat at one time! My capacity is about half what it was pre-op!
--OTC pain reliever: I only used my prescription for about a week; the pain is not really that bad and the side effects of the narcotics (constipation) made me want to try something else pretty quick!
--I took probiotics to counter the effects (yeast) of taking an antibiotic; but ask your doc about this first.
--my kids and husband: they have been SO GOOD to me! My oldest made me a card for my homecoming and my youngest used her allowance to buy me a Sudoku book! They let me complain without giving me TOO HARD a time and basically love me in spite of myself!
GOOD LUCK.
