Numbness & Swelling - ?? Still at almost 5 months??

Hello.  Just wondering if anyone else has the swelling and numbness going on at almost 5 months.  I had an extended TT on 10-28-09 and some days I feel okay and can see my rib cage, ab muscles and I can feel my tummy - no numbess above my tummy pooch (which is still always numb).

But most days, my tummy pooch gets hard and round and up into my abdomen swells so much you can't even tell I have ribs and it's numb all the way up my abdomen to just under my breasts.  I might stay that way for a few days, feel "normal" again for a day or so, then back to a puffer ball.  I feel like a basketball and sound like a watermelon if I tap on my tummy.  Is this normal this far out??

Yep.  My PS told me it takes months and months before I will get all the feeling back - possibly over a year.  But most days the numbness bothers me more than the swelling.

Thanks for the quick reply!  Yep, some days the numbness actually feels like it hurts.  Maybe because I'm stretched so far out!

I'm 3 months out and the swelling about my belly button is sometimes worse than below.  I was doing pretty good with the swelling, then lately its been getting worse again.  Also, I've been feeling some pulling/pain at times.  Yes, I've started exercising again, so I think it may be part of that - just using the muscles again and the incision is going to argue a bit.

I'm just taking it 1 day at a time... I have no idea how long it will take before it stops.

Sounds like swelling may cause the increase in numbness. My PS suggests wearing my compression garment as long as possible. I'm in week seven. He said we will reassess at week 10. I started walking 3 miles at week 6 and the swelling increased, so I backed down, and will start  off slowly. Hang in there and listen to your body. I also heard this process could go on for months to a year.

I am 8 months out from LBL and feeling way more normal these days. ( I was pulled VERY tight because I had way more in the back than I did at the tummy but now I am FLAT, FLAT, FLAT!!)

I would have the numbness around menstral cycle and exercise..and I would feel really, really tight.  Now I barely notice it and have a lot of feeling back..of course I am on to the thighs and that is my latest ouchy!

I'm sure you've seen my posts before but before this last round I was 8 months out and I still got swollen. Some days out of the blue it was more than others but it wasn't as bad as the first couple of months. Of course now I'm probably back to ground zero since I had lipo on my sides and had a revision to my anchor cut. The swelling is definitely back. So yes the swelling and numbness is totally normal. The numbness went a way far before my swelling stopped. They say they both can last up to a year and for some people they never really get all their feeling back in some spots. Are you still wearing some type of compression? It does get better. We just have to be patient!

I am one week away from 5 months out and I still have swelling and numbing. My surgeon says possible 18 months until it feels normal again. To just be patient. You are not alone.

Thank you everyone - sorry took so long for me to get back - lost internet for over a week!  I've started wearing my compression garments again and it seems to be helping.  Gonna try to remember that this is a journey, not a short trip!  Thanks!
