? after Panni/TT/BL/BA
So I'm 9 days post op & have a few questions for all of you (have call into nurse):
- Where were you most swollen? I think the only place I am swollen is where I believe my tummy tuck was -- below the breast & above the belly button. I don't want to panic & think I will always be like this & think it is just swelling. And what IS causing all the swelling?
- My post op instructions say I only have to wear my bra 24/7 for 10 days. Do you still wear yours? Does it help?
- My doctor also put a 2 inch band across the top of my breasts - can I quit wearing that also?
I am thrilled at how fairly painless these procedures were for me. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. When they removed my panni & pulled the skin it was so thin that my skin popped & I have had just raw skin on both sides - right where my underwear leg would sit. THAT has been the most painful part. Then the drains have just been a pain & I'm hoping by Monday I'll be able to call & make my appointment to get the removed. It seems like it will hurt like heck, but can't complain since things have gone so smoothly.
Thanks for all your advice!

I dont have any answers to your questions but I do have one suggestion.
I'm scheduled for a tummy tuck and breast reduction in a few weeks and I am worried about my skin "popping" like yours because it's already very thin...ouch!
My boyfriend is a surgical nurse and said the best thing you can do for the drains is put a little neosporin around the entrance sites. This will keep them soft and keep them from drying and scabbing up which is where most of the pain comes from when the drains are removed.
Good luck and let me know how you do.

Thanks Michelle.
What the attending told me after the surgery was the skin where my stretch marks were was so thin that it ripped when they went to pull the skin together & sew them. But the more I think about it & look at it, it's right where I always would get my rashes, under my belly, along the top of the leg. So I'm wondering if that is the case.
I'm hoping these drains will be history by the beginning of next week. I've gotten use to them, but they are still a nuisance. As I said in my earlier post, I'm amazed at how well this has gone. When I do take the pain pills it's for my back which hurts from always sitting in a lazy boy chair or propped up in bed.
Good luck with your procedures!

I am one week post op and had my drain removed at my first post op appt. (5 days post op). I was worried it would hurt but it didn't!
Make sure you get some gauze pads for home, though...because once the drain is removed you may still LEAK a bit at the site for a few days, especially when moving around. Today is the first day I haven't noticed it since the drain was removed 4 days ago.
I can't comment on the swelling since I had a mid-line incision for a scar revision as well as the TT, lipo and breast lift. The swelling seems to come and go in different places at different times. I don't think it would hurt to wear the compression garments longer if you think they'll help you. Swelling is a normal part of the process and can happen for a while post-op.

Thanks Marilyn. I am so jealous. Here I am, almost 2 weeks post op & I still have all 3 drains in! I was hoping today would be the day I was down to 30 cc's, but I was at 60 cc's, so no call to the Drs. office today. I'm trying not to be depressed about it, I mean, I don't want all those fluids just swimming around inside, but my gosh I'm so tired of these drains.
Glad to hear it didn't hurt, I am worried about that.
Thanks for your information & continued good health to you!

I got 2 of the drains removed on Wednesday & will have the last 1 removed on Monday. Finally! When the nurse removed the first drain it didn't hurt, it was just a really strange feeling. I could feel it moving through my stomach. When she removed the 2nd one I didn't feel a thing! Hopefully the 3rd one will come out without any problems.
As I've said all along, I am amazed at how well I feel. Other than being constipated & tired, I feel really well.
Thanks for asking!
Patty
