Monday is the big day (Nervous)

Well Monday is the big day for my pannicultectomy and I am nervous but I guess that is normal.  I am supposed to be back home the next day and hope I will be able to get in and out of bed ok and be comfortable enough.  I am taking 3 weeks off from work (Iam a phlebotomist ie: vampire) Some people on here have posted that there drains are still in at 3 weeks so that is a bit worrisome.  I have my compression garment and surgeon says to wear it for 2-3 months is this what you all were told?  Iam mostly concerned about taking the pain meds after as I am on a regime of 3 stool softners and 1 probiotic daily just so I can go and in October when I had my hernia repair and took pain meds just for a few days I got so constipated that I had to go to the ER.  I will double my stool softner dose and hope that does the trick. Any advice or comments are appreciated, thank you in advance.

I had my panni removed, plus tummy tuck, BL/BA just last Tuesday & came home the next day.  I was scared to death!  However, in case you haven't read any of my posts, I have been amazed at how little pain I've had & how well things have gone.

I didn't have much problems getting in & out of bed, just went slow.  Up until last night I slept in a lazy boy chair & tonight I will be staying in my bed (propped up on pillows).  I stopped taking the pain pills the very next day & whenever I did take them it was because my back hurt, not the stomach or breast area.

I have 3 drains & have to have them until I am draining less than 30 cc's.  The day after I came home I had 250 ccs.  Yesterday it was 67 ccs.  I expect this week-end to be the end of it.  The first couple of days they were a pain because everytime I moved fluid would leak out from where the tubes entered my body.  And everytime I stood up the gauze bandages would fall as I never found a way to keep them attached.

My surgeon told me I didn't have to wear my compression garment all the time but I've read on here how it helps with the swelling, so I've warned my 24/7 except for when I shower.

I also was concerned about the constipation & started the stool softeners the next day.  I tried the Smooth Move tea & thought it was nasty.  I didn't have a bowel movement from Tuesday to Monday, then again Tuesday and nothing since.  It's something I am keeping an eye on.

I hope everything goes well & you have as little pain as I did.  Good luck!

Congrats on your upcoming procedure.  I'm sure you'll do fine.
My drains were taken out after my TT on or about day 12.
I wore the compression garment after my TT for 3 months.
Constipation was a problem for me with each surgery.....I find Dulcolax laxatives helped best (not softeners but the laxative)....then when things get moving I switch to the softeners.

Best wishes!!

I am so glad to read these responses. My procedure is Monday also. I am dealing with a little anxiety, a little fear and a whole lot of excitement. I think I have everything also. Someone suggested a list that was on a profile. I found the list and bought what I thought was pertinent to my situation. I will get released the same day but have to stay in a motel that night then off to my sons house to recover. So thanks for posting this thread and thanks to those of you *****spond.

Everyone is different and every surgeon has a different protocol. I had my drain removed on post op day #5.

Definitely use the stool softners and if you know there is gonna be a problem ask your doctor about using the gentle laxatives (like dulcolax) before a problem develops.

I think I'd rather err on the side of caution and wear the compression garments too long rather than too little. The truth is, you will know if you need them if you start to swell when you don't wear them.

The pain for me is much less than with my bypass...I had an extended TT with lipo, scar revision and breast lift. I only took the prescription for a week and honestly once I started taking the OTC pain reliever wished I had switched sooner since it works better.

GOOD LUCK.
