What to I do when I come home and can't get around!!!!

I am getting ready to have a breast aug/mastopexy and a circumferential body lift (atw).  My home is two stories with the showers and bedrooms upstairs and I don't have a recliner anywhere in the house.  They told me I wouldn't be able to go up and down stairs for at least a week so that puts me living in the living room and dining room.  How did you guys do it?  How do you get comfortable on a couch...and what about  bathing?  Any tips on how to survive coming home?

I stayed at my parents and they have a 2 story home. I was able to get up stairs, just took it slow. (I had a LBL with anchor cut TT). I could not get in/out of a recliner and found the couch the most comfortable place to sleep, wedged my butt between 2 cushions so it did not pull on any incisions and it was very comfortable. I had a shower 5-6 days post op (?) and just used a shoe string to hold my drains. Prior to that my mom washed my hair in our kitchen sink.

All the best to you, I'll think you'd do ok =) Just take it easy and ask your family and friends for help when you need it!!

EDIT: Best piece of advice I got was TAKE STOOL SOFTENERS!

I second her on the" best advice".... take stool softeners as soon as able post op and every day thereafter. It will make things a LOT easier on you!

Will you have help the first few days? That will be a lot easier if you do. I would recommend renting a lift chair from Rent a Center or Aaron's Leasing. It makes it so much easier to get up with just a touch of a button. No need to mess with the lever of the recliner or having to use your legs to force it down. You can also find them at medical supply stores as well.

I am post op day #3 and can tell you, getting around is much easier than I had anticipated.

I am so glad I took my friend's advice and got a cheap recliner at Goodwill for $25. I will be taking it back to them in the next few weeks. Sleeping on the couch for me was SO uncomfortable.

I hate the compression garments but am wearing them as ordered because I know they are important to having the BEST long term outcome.

I am lucky because I don't have to go up and down stairs; I have a full bath and a half bath on my first floor, so I can was up in one of those as needed.

BTW: I had extended abdominoplasty with lipo of abdomen and flanks and a breast lift.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your input!  I hadn't even thought about a rental for a week or so.  My mom in law is coming in to help with the kids.  My husband is military so we don't have any family local.  I am definately making notes and will let everyone know how everything goes!
