Plastic for Light Weights and the Poor?
Hi everyone. Here I am 16 months post op VSG WLS. I would like to have plastics done. I have the name of a plastic surgeon from my WL Dr. Here is where all my issues come to play. I am a light weight. I am also a poor person who has NJ Horizon Medicaid for health insurance. They did pay for the the WLS. I have a old school C-section from 28 years ago. I also have a Hyantia herina. It was not fixed in surgery. I now have even more tummy flab, my arms look like a bat wing and I could fly with them.LOL. My breast (what little I had before) now fall out of my bra (yes I got new size) if I bend over. My knees now have wrinkles! OMG I fell like such a mess.

I had to pay out of pocket for all of my reconstructive plastics (except for the breast reduction). I count my blessings that I was able to afford it but to make up for all this expense I do try to cut back in a lot of my day-to-day expenses.....small things add up fast! Some sacrifices have to be made for the things we really want...........I have not gone away on vacation in 3 years (but will do so this year), I dye my own hair, get fewer haircuts, clip coupons for groceries (I safe a ton of money buying sale items and using coupons), have basic cable (instead of 100 channels which I would only watch maybe 5 more than I have with basic), don't go out to eat every week, don't have the latest/fanciest cell phone but then I don't pay $100 a month for cell phone service either....... don't misunderstand, I'm not cheap and I don't live a deprived pitiful existence either, I have plenty but I learned to do more without needing all the latest gadgets. When I see a cute dress I want, I buy it.
As Red said; there are plenty of women here who have worked a second job or lots and lots of overtime so they can save up for plastics.
Good luck.

Like Moosie, I also paid and am paying all of my plasics out of pocket. I am currently out of work and have been by choice for a while. I have worked most of my life and my husband and I cut back on stuff so I could stay home the last couple of years with our youngest son who is now 18 and about to graduate high school. I worked throughout most of his life and wanted a couple of years to be home with him before he moves out and starts his own life. On one income, plastics was not something we could afford. Yet my husband and sons were and are so supportive and wanted me to go for it, they wanted this for me as much as I did. We all prayed a lot as to what was the right decision and how to go about it. We took out loans in order to pay for the surgeries. We have cut back on anything not necesary. We got rid of all cable T.V, stopped eating out, reduced our phone plans to the minumum, cancelled our Blockbuster and gun club memberships, clip and use coupons, plan meals, and we won't be going on any vacations for quite a while. Also as soon as I'm able following my second round of plastics, I will be going back to work. Like Moosie said, all of the little things add up. To me all of this is worth it though. I have wanted this for so long. People have done all sorts of things and made all kinds of sacrifices to make it happen. It has to be a personal choice.

One day I actually added up the saving and was pretty impressed. Last year we got that magicjack thing for the house phone....saves over $500 a year just on that alone!!
One of my favorite "games" is to see how much I can save at the grocery store (or Walmart) with coupons....there have been a few times I come out with $70-80 worth of stuff and pay about $25.00! WAHOO!!!
