Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and taxes

This has come up a number of times over the years. In general with the IRS, if you paid for it out of pocket you are on shaky ground claiming it is a medical expense as opposed to an elective plastic surgery procedure which is not deductible. If your insurer covered the procedure, your surgery deducible/copay and any associated itemized supply or medicine expenses are clearly defensible as it has already been deemed "medically necessary" by your insurer.
