Disclose or Not Disclose....hmmmm
Hello all:
I am happy that I was approved to get a TT and a breast recon, but now I am thinking about going out on disability again at my job. Last year this time I was out on disability for my RNY, now its plastics. People are going to be curious once again as to my 6 week disappearance from work. My immediate supervisor is a gossip monger and if I told her anything it would spread like wild fire! Not sure what I should say to her or my other boss for that matter, if I should say anything at all! I didn't disclose my RNY but you would have to be pretty dumb to see that I have dropped 80+ lbs rather fast. Could I go out on disability again so soon, can my job fire me for doing this?
Well, all I can say is that my TT is seriously necessary so I can finally stop the itchiness and soreness for the constant scratching and the bonus of course a flat tum tum! Why do I feel guilty about this??
Anyone here get TT an breast recon at the same time? How long did it take you to recover? What about pregnancy afterward? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing!

I had a TT and BA last year and only needed 2 weeks off work, but that depends on what kind of work you do. I have a desk job.
The HIPPA act protects your privacy regarding medical issues. If your company requires that you tell someone why you are taking medical leave, and you get back and find out the whole place knows, you can sue. Where I work I had to show a letter from the doctor, of course his letterhead says he's a plastic surgeon so my supervisor and HR person kno I'm getting some plastics done. But then, I don't care and tell anyone that asks that I'm getting about 4-6 inches cut off all the way around my lower body and they're pulling it all up like pantyhose.

I had my wls July 2008, I was out of work for 7 weeks on STD. I had TT, bl/ba and inner thigh lipo August 2009 and I was out on STD for 8 weeks after that surgery. On February 26, 2010 I had a revision and I was out once again on STD for 4 weeks. Now to answer your question, no you cannot lose your job if you are out on STD for medical reasons.
Good luck!

While I am blessed enough to own my own business and therefore not have need for leave of abscense, I can tell you that I did have a tummy tuck and breast lift at the same time. Im 4 wks out and feeling good now, but i can say that I probably couldn't have handled anything but a desk job until at least 3wks. MINIMUM.
As for pregnancy and breast feeding after surgery - it's not recommended. I would be done with all that before payng THOUSANDS to have surgery. Because it wil lcause breasts to sag again and it will cause hanging skin in the belly again.
I also read somewhere that breast reconstruct can inhibit breast feeding.

It's nobodys business unless you want to it to be.
So far as returning to work.....I felt GREAT after my TT and breast lift....I didn't have to go back to work but would have been fine after 3 weeks and maybe even 2 if I needed to.
Best wishes with your decision and your future surgery

I have NO FILTERS & have told everyone I know!! (even my barrista!!)
I am very excited & have received nothing but postive words of encouragement & most want to know how soon until I leave, exactly what I am having done, etc. - I think my sisters may even have PS once they see the results.
I work at a hospital - desk job - and I did tell my boss (she is cool) but I didn't have to. HR knows as well - as a lot of people go out for PS now a days. I will be taking 5 weeks for TT, BA & arms.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think my doc wants to do the anchor cut for my tummy tuck for a more svelt look. He also suggested boobs too as a bonus because the package deal I am getting is only $3500 my boobs have seen better days, so I agreed! 3 weeks maybe cutting myself short I will go for the full month out...knowing me I am a total baby about pain, even though I have a desk job too! Let see how this goes! Thanks again everyone!
