Well my name is katie and I had gastric RNY about 16 months ago and I have lost about 148 pounds. I'm currently 178 but I feel like I'm still 324. I'm about to meet with my gastric doctor in a couple weeks to talk about some options about plastics and im soooo nervous. I have two folds on my stomach and one hangs horribly and my legs look ridiculous with all the hanging and so do my arms. Thankfully my back really isnt bad with excess skin. I'm nervous that my insurance wont cover it at all...For me I sweat horrible where all my folds are and i my excess skin rubs raw when i wear jeans or anything because there is so much and it honestly hurts to wear jeans after awhile with all this skin. My back is in constant pain still and i thought after losing all this weight that those kind of problems would go away but this skin makes my back still hurt. I cant wear shorts or skirts or anything because the skin on my legs rub together and chaff and seriously that hurts after awhile. I get these rashes in my armpits and i really think its because of the hanging skin on my arms. I workout all the time and i just no results on the excess skin. So, i guess my questions are: Is this even grounds to cover a surgery? What should i do to start preparing for this? I know what i want done and have researched in completely, but i guess everyone i know just doesnt really get how important this is to me...I want to come full circle and i feel like this completes my journey...I mean i'm 20 yrs old and i feel like right now im trapped in a 80 yr olds body.
thanks! katie

Document, document, DOCUMENT!

That is the best way to increase the chances of your insurance covering your plastic surgery.

Anytime you have a problem because of skin folds (broken down skin, infections) be sure you contact your doctor and have the complaint and treatments put on your medical record.

If you are having back pain, see a doctor or chiropractor about it and have it put into your medical record.

If it ain't in writing, it didn't happen...so, while it may be a pain for a while to see the doctor for what some people consider MINOR problems, it is in your best interest long term to do so.

Good luck.
