Whine. Swelling! Whine! Exercise causes swelling! WHINE!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh .....

I was feeling great.  After eight months post-LBL, I thought I deserved to start jogging again, so I went 2 miles a day for four days .....

OW OW OW OW OW!

I am swelling like nobody's business.  Gave up the jogging, have been wearing my Flexees singlet 24/7 (except in the shower) but I am still looking about 6 months preggers.  I swear I'm not.  But I LOOK it.

Very stuffed-feeling and uncomfortable.

Whine, whine, whine.

So tell me -- does exercise aggravate your post-PS swelling?  Or is it just me?

Tell me about it!
I am 4 months post and I am doing the same thing!  It sucks!
I was hoping the swelling wouldn't happen after 6 months or so, but I see it still does at 8 months!
Sorry!!!

This is so discouraging, isn't it?  I have "other health issues," so I'm pretty sure I'll be swelling for a long time -- but REALLY, I did expect that somehow exercise would be beneficial.

This is the first morning that I woke up (8 days not exercising) and my belly was not hard as a rock.  Eight days for swelling post-exercise to go down!

You are not alone........Yes exercise can, and most often does, cause extra swelling.  STINKS!
I'm just surprised that at 8 months out it is starting for you.....good news it is temporary.  One thing that always helped me was butting the back on after a workout and putting a small icepack under the binder (takes the swelling down within an hour for me).

Ruth, thank you for the support.  I have been following your progress and paying attention.  So thank you for your advice.

I have been swelling all along, but it had been getting better, which is why I thought to exercise.  I don't know why it is, but while I DID realize that activity makes things worse (more swelling at the end of the day) - why did it NOT occur to me that exercise would really exacerbate the problem?

I hadn't thought about the icepack thing, so thank you.  If I ever exercise again, I'll give that a try!

YES!!!!!!!! I'm 3 months out and started trying to sprint again. I even did it with my garment on, hoping that would help...NOPE! I was "swole" and not in a good way!! It was awful! I complaing to my surgeon (as if he could anything about it, but doesnt' stop me from whining) and he said, well, looks like you need to scale it back for now. Scale it back??? That is one of the reasons I gained weight to begin with!! I hate not working out. So now I'm back to just walking and light weight training...and when I find myself "overwalking" like over an hour...the swelling increases. And what is super bad is that I have a constant 3 month baby bump going anyway...so after workout swelling, it's even bigger! ARGH!!! I'm just happy to see I'm not the only one! ; -)

1) whine goes good with everything (in my opinion)
2) if I had any idea that i would not be able to exercise, I might have done the surgery (and forgone exercise) a whole lot sooner
3)  ARGH!!! is right!

Anyway, misery loves company, and I'm really glad that this exercise-related swelling is not a product of something being horribly wrong with me!

Can anyone say when it will end?? I mean - at a year are you pretty sure the swelling is over?

I have a BIG trip planned in September following my TT, BA & arm lift the end of May & I want to dive & ride ATV's, etc.

Will I be able to??

Yes, you'll be able to do a lot of it..you will just pay for it with swelling!  You might get lucky though...some people don't really swell bad at all!  My surgeon said predicting if someone will swell is nearly impossible.  Guess some of us are just more unlucky that others!   As for the diving, swimming uses your core muscles, so if you are getting muscle tightening...you may get sore really fast.  But if you are leasurely diving, you might be ok.  The ATV's you'll be ok with!
