PS Docs in Houston

I know Dr Lomonaco is a natural choice but I really wanted to look at some other doctors in the Houston area.   Are there any other surgeons in the Houston area that are experienced with LBL after weight loss, etc?  Anyone have any good or bad experiences with other PS surgeons in the Houston area?

I know Dr. Lo is much loved (sorry Angela!), but there are some reasons he might not be the best doc for me so I want to really look at the options before I decide.

Best I could suggest if you dont go with Dr. Lo - (which if you dont mind sharing - why do you feel he isn't the right fit? I understand if you are uncomfortable sharing) then contact your WLS surgeon and ask him for a recommendation and start interviewing them.
I would DEMAND PROOF that they have examples of WLS patients before and after. I insist on this because some will say they have the experience and they don't and then they end up on here DEVASTATED with their results and spend MORE money trying to fix it.
I know my mom used Straka in Humble (North Houston) and while she didn't have terrible results, she has a funky belly button.

Just make sure you find someone who can prove their experience and whom you feel comfortable with! Good luck on your search!:)

I will do my homework for sure.  Houston is the medical capital of the US, I am sure there are other docs who do it and do it quite well.  I didnt go with the rock stars of bariatric surgery in Houston either but am very very pleased with my outcome.

Its complicated about Dr. Lo.  There are just a few small reasons (like making an appointment is a huge pain and took me over a week just to talk to someone, whats it gonna be like after?  While I was on the phone trying to make an appointment, they turned off their phones cause they were getting too many calls) to a major reason (they are not an w/c accesible office and a close family member who would come with me uses a wheelchair).  I know everyone loves him but I am not feeling it.  I am still contempating a consult, but I really want to look at all my options and see if there might be a better fit.

I also didn't use a Rockstar surgeon for my RNY either. And I faired well enough!:)

Im sorry you had those difficulties - that would be frustrating for me too. However I can say that I have NEVER had problems like these before with them. I absolutely understand your not "feeling it" over the wheelchair accesibility but if you still don't find what you are looking for in someone else - please do a consult at least with Dr. Lo.

BTW - Im sooo not a paid member of his staff or anything. Im a regular client like you who found out about him on this board as well. And I am just so blown away by the commitment and sincereity in all his staff.

I do know that a few weeks ago during a storm that their entire phone system was zapped for like...24 hours. But like I said - I can't speak for them. Let me know if you would like me to direct him to you through messaging on here. He PERSONALLY is a fantastic surgeon!

Regardless - I do hope you find the surgeon that fits YOU, because in the end you really need someone who YOU are comfortable with and secure in :) I know you are going to just look so fantastic!

from what the lady said, they are just swamped with a ton of patients now.  Makes me think my being a pt isnt super important, honestly.  I am sure he is great and not scratching him off the list, but think I will make a list

I can respect what you're saying.  Not every surgeon is right for everyone.  All it takes is one bad phone experience to turn you off.  That has happened to me plenty of times with other Drs offices.  As you may know, I used Dr L in conjunction with the Baylor Residency program.  I would not have been able to afford Dr L otherwise.  It's worked great for me and I've been very pleased with everyone involved.  I wouldn't hesitate scheduling an appt with Baylor as you schedule your consultations even if money wasn't an issue.  Dr Izadoost was one of my surgeons and he does great work and is very caring.  Here are the ones I consulted with locally.

Dr. John Lomonaco
Dr. Bob Basu
Dr. David Wainwright
Dr. Paul Fortes
Dr. Michael Eisemann
UT Residency Program
Baylor Residency Program

Good luck,

Just FYI...The top 3 drs on the list were my top choices had I not used Baylor.  I would have been happy with any of those.  Dr Wainwright's office is not the quickest to respond if they don't answer for appts so just letting you know ahead of time. That's not to assume aftercare would be that way.

Melissa-
So does Dr. Lo work with the residency program at Baylor?

I am really interested in going to him when it's time for my plastics, but I will probably not be able to afford him.  I have been looking for a residency program where they have a speciality in patients after major weight loss, but it's pretty hard to find this info online, I've found.

Thanks,
pippin
