Hello everyone!! I hope you all had a great weekend and a great day today!!
I hate to bug you guys and pick your brains, but you all have been so helpful in the past I wanted to see if anybody has anything on this subject.

Lymphedema and excess skin.

I have loss over 150lbs and have kept it off for 5 years. However back in 2007, when my weight was stabilizing, my legs started to swell out of no where. I went from doctor to doctor with no explanation and had every blood test, and acronym test you can find only to be told that nothing was wrong. But then I went to another Dr. outside of my network, he said that I had lymphedema because my blood pressure was high and that I need to take meds to control it. He sent me to a physical therapist, who massaged me and wrapped me for a week and in combination with that and the meds I immediately dropped 15-19lbs of fluid with in 2 weeks. I've been on the meds for the duration since then.

But I just noticed that I don't swell unless I don't get enough sleep and also it popped in my mind that I'm carrying around the weight in skin on a 5ft 5in frame of a whole other (plus-sized) person and would think that would have an effect on my circulatory system too.
I only posted this on this board to see if anyone had the same problem and were able to get insurance to approve plastic surgery because of this.

As usual your time, thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated,
Marie

I'm sorry you suffer rom Lymphedema - that's a terrible chronic disease to have to live with. And how disappointing to discover it after you had lost so much weight.  If you are considering plastic surgery, you should find one who has experience with Lymphedema because surgery can make it worse. Do you have a Dr. who follows you for this? Maybe they could make recommendations for you?

Skylar is ABSOLUTLEY right when she says to make sure your surgeon is aware of this issue and that you have a plan in place BEFORE surgery. Because this WILL make it worse at least for a time.
My father is disabled due to lymphodema in his legs (bad car accident where knee**** the dash). It's a miserable condition for sure - I hope you can find the help you need to maintain control of it while having your surgery!:)

Good Morning!!!

Thanks guys for the advice and encouragement. I don't have a follow up Dr. here in New Orleans yet since I just moved back. But I"m going to make a call to my PCP that I had while I was going through the process of getting approved for my bypass and see if will take me on.

And at the advice of you guys I'm going to talk to my plastic surgeon and his team today and let them know what's going on so that  we can come up with a successful plan of action if need be.

Thanks again for the advice, it was greatly appreciated.

TTYL,

Marie

Good Afternoon Everyone!!

I followed the suggestions and called my PS' office and talked to his PA and she said that everything should be fine and that at the most, my PS might need a medical clearance from my PCP; which I don't think will be a problem. Either way she will get back to me sometime this week.

In the meantime I will schedule an appt with my old PCP to see if "we" are still a perfect fit, lol just in case I have to find another one. But I don't think that will be a problem.

Again Thanks Skylar and Emerging Beauty for your time and input, it was greatly appreciated. Much continued success on your journeys.

TTYL, Marie
