Should I do Breast Lift and Implants at the same time??

Hi, I'm just doing a poll because I value all of your opinions and advice.

I have had several plastic surgery consults on the several different procedures that I have to have done and on all of the previous ones they have told me that I could not have my breast lift and implants done at the same time.

However, I went to a consult on this past Thursday that exceeded my expectations, I LUV THE STAFF!!!  And to my surprise they suggested that they could do my LBL, BL, Implants and Buttock aug all at the same time. WOW!!  I however stuck on the past recommendations chose to have the implants done at a later time when I go back to get my arms done.

I would love to have the implants done at the same time as the lift....Any advice/suggestions/experiences.

All is appreciated, Thanks

I had my lift and implants at the same time on March 16th.  Everything went smooth, and I can tell they are going to look wonderful once all the swelling goes down a bit.  They are very tender but i'm told that is expected.  Why were they telling you not to have them the same day?  Seems odd since they are in the same area.

My understanding is that in a perfect world where time $ is unlimited, it is best to have the lift done first. But I don't have the $ to do that so I will be having them done at the same time.

My surgeon suggested to me that it was best to do them in separate procedures.  However I am in the over 55 set and so that may had something to do with it.  He told me we would do the lift and then if I wanted implants later he would do them.  As it turns out I think I got a pretty good size with just the lift and will not need the implants.

I think this is one area where there it is just simply not carved in stone and you will want to factor in the experience and reputation of the surgeon.

I experienced the same thing when I was shopping around for reconstructive surgery.  Three of the surgeons suggested just the lift and if I wanted the implants later then come back and they would do the implants.  I must tell you, with each of those doctors I believed it was more for financial reasons than what was best for the patient.

The surgeon I ended up with was referred to me by my WLS doctor.  I am glad I went with this doctor.  During the consult visit he explained to me the reason for the lift and implants at the same time.  My chest was very flat and there was nothing there but two long airless tube socks, he knew I would not be happy with just a lift because I expressed this to him.

Do what you think is best for you, if a doctor does not want to give you what you want then go elsewhere.

Good luck with your decision.

I had lift with implants at the same time and would not do it any other way. Only one doctor I consulted with wanted to do everything seperate, the others highly suggest doing both together. I also had my tummy tuck with the breast job. It's a lot of money and time to have all that done....I would suggest do it all together if you can for many reasons.

My surgeon wouldn't do them together.  Said that he would be doing a whole lot of pulling and tugging in many directions with the circumferential body lift, as well as the breast lift.  He said it had a high risk of distorting the shape of the implants after all of the healing.  I felt 100% happy with him and his opinions, so I just did the lifts on my first surgery (in 2008).  I just had my 2nd surgery this past March, and had the implants and lots of lipo done to finish my journey.  I couldn't be happier.  In fact, he ended up doing a tiny bit more breast lift (free) and a good deal of lipo on my bra rolls (free), since things had healed and changed a little since the last surgery.  He said we were "shooting for perfection".

Each doctor has their own opinion, and you should go with the one you feel most comfortable with.  Mine gave me enough reasons with what he knew he would be doing during the first surgery to convince me to split them up.....

Good luck!

Hello! There are 2 diffent schools of thought on this unfortunately. And some of that may have to do with the experience of the surgeon when doing both at the same time for WLS patients. I found that the drs that didn't like doing them together felt they got a better result doing them separately because it allowed the breast to heal and settle naturally before putting the implants in giving a better end result. WLS skin is different as you know. It's up to you, but since you probably will be having 2 surgeries, it's not like you won't have the opportunity to have them put in with round 2. It's a tough decision I know!

Good luck!

Hi everyone!!

Thanks for all of your opinions, I value them dearly. I think that I will give this a little more thought, plus consult with my surgeon and his staff to see what the outcome or best decision should be.

I'm kind of leaning towards waiting since I am going to be doing 2 surgeries no matter what and since I've been dealing with them (saggy bag's of flour, breasts) a few more months won't hurt. That way I can (after healing from the lift) see if I would need to tighten up a little more while getting the implants since I only want to be a full C.

So thanks again everyone for your help and I will keep you posted on my journey.

P.S. Has anyone heard from "purpletab"? Just wanted to see how she was progressing and feeling during her post op.

Thanks Marie
