how do you know when you shouldnt lose anymore?
hello everyone my name is ericia i had gastric bypass 14months ago. i lost 78lbs before the surgery and 132lbs since. my family been telling me i am getting to thin. but i look at myself and think are you crazy i am still over weight my weight goal is to weigh 160lbs and everyone is just saying i need to tone and have the plastic surgery.i carried most of my weight in my belly and back. it seem they haven't really went away. well i believe this weight is pulling me down but i am not sure if its all skin, well i just want to know your thoughts if anyone ever feel this way. thank you.
I think you will find that your body will decide where it wants to stop and you won't have a lot of say about it. Just keep doing what you've been doing and stay patient.
We lose the weight so fast that we tend to look gaunt at first. The second year our body shifts the remaining fat around to the areas that got too skinny and we don't look so sickly anymore. Don't worry about what others think, ask yourself "How do you feel?". Do you feel well, healthy? That's what matters.
You lost height because you lost fat on the bottom of your feet. they get fat too, LOL.

I actually went to a plastic surgeon consult for an evaluation to ask their expert opinion re: whether I should lose any m ore weight . To my surprise, they all said to stop and that I had almost no more fat left. So we dont always see ourselves as we are. I could believe the surgeon's opinions because they could distinguish between fat and skin when looking at me.
Congratulations on your huge weight loss.

First congratulations on losing 78 lbs on your own and then another 132...WAHOO!!!!
Knowing when you've lost enough is a very personal thing but there are guidelines out there. Don't just focus on the number on the scale...you want to be at a healthy BMI! A reputable plastic surgeon won't do surgery until you are at goal and a healthy BMI and maintaining that for at least 6 months. A healthy BMI needs to be less than 25...anything higher than 24.9 is still overweight.
How tall are you..... your signature says you weigh 172....if you are over 6 ft tall that is a healthy weight/bmi. If you are 5'6" it is still an overweight bmi.
I'm not trying to be nasty or depressing just trying to be real.
For you to get the BEST results from your plastics you should be at your best health, best bmi.
Personally I'd try to lose some more UNLESS your doctor has told you not to.
I'm almost 5'7"...when I weighed 170 I thought I was ready to have surgery but then realized I should lose at least another 15 lbs......I'm down to 145 and feel FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!
Yes it means waiting a little longer for your surgery but in the end you'll be happier that you waited and did it right.
OH - fyi - the skin removed during plastics does not weigh as much as you think it might. I had a lot of skin (not fat, just skin) removed from my tummy and it weighed less than 5 lbs. PLUS you swell up after surgery and they fill you with fluid so you don't always end up showing a 5 lb loss if 5 lbs of skin is removed. I know that sounds weird but that's how the body works...
Just my 2 cents based on my weight loss and plastics experience.
Best wishes on your journey!

Go with how you feel and what you want don't let other people dictate most are just use to seeing you heavier but if the doc says you are still in the over weight BMI and you want to lose more than go for it but if you are comfortable and happy where you are now then stop it should be how you feel and how healthy you are.

hello
I agree, Our goals are to healthy. I started out at 234, now I am 150 after four years on my journey.
as women we have certain images in minds as to what we are supposed to look like.
we battle these demon's everyday. also I am 5.2. the bmi may say that I am overweight, I am also 50 years old.
I listen to my body to tell me what is best. I would like to lose 15, I find if I lose to much, I look sick.
You have to eat right to have plastics, if you Don't
you will not heal properly. you are only 12 pounds or so away from you goals. that weight could come off with plastics.
Every once in a while we have to redefine our goals, we need to see where we have been and where we are headed.
Talk to your doctors/nutritionist and let them work with you.
also I would like to stress, most of us were heavy for a long time, the weight will take time to come off. Most of us still feel heavy, be kind to yourself.
please eat healthy.
I wish you the best,
Debra
