I had RNY in Aug. of 2008 and have only lost half my weight I was supposed to lose.  I went from 233 to 183, then back up to 194 at this point.  My dr. tells me I need plastics now to get any more loss at this point.  I am depressed about the whole situation.  My bottom is small I wear 10 jeans but my top is big because of my belly and breasts I buy big tops which is depressing enough.  I feel like I failed in the weight loss department.  Will a TT take me down more?  I keep reading about swelling and only 2 inches lost, etc.  I am seriously conflicted about whether I should do the TT but I can't stand my huge belly anymore.

PS definitely shouldn't be done to lose weight or inches. You will be more comfortable, but if you intend to lose a lot more weight, you should wait until you are closer to your goal. Get your emotions in check and examine why you haven't gotten all your weight off. Make sure you can stabilize your weight. I you get a TT and gain more weight, you will definitely be depressed! Take your time and use TT as a reward for getting your weight where you want it! Good luck!

There are some instances where the panni just has to come off before one hits goal.  But this is not to lose weight -- this is generally to manage skin issues.  Is your Doc telling you that you will lose weight if you do this or is he telling you that it will jump start your weight loss.  There are also those instances where getting the panni is interfering with mobility and thereby preventing one from exercising.  If this is the case then you should go for it.  Then there are the psychological issues tied up with all of this.  If getting this done will make you "feel" better about yourself there is something to be said for getting the TT.  But if you are getting it to lose weight then you might be very disappointed.

Who's your doctor?  Is he your RNY surgeon, a PCP or PS???   How tall are you??  233 to 183 is only 50lbs.   I know there are lightweights out there but that's alot to put your body through for 50lbs (unless you meant 100 was the original goal).   Not flaming you or trying to depress you further, just wondering why someone isn't working with you to get back to basics and continue your loss (there's a Back on Track Together forum here at OH-type it in the search bar) PS is meant to remove hanging empty skin; it is not a weight loss treatment and in most cases it's a far more involved recovery than your RNY probably was.   Any doc telling you that's your only option is just looking to empty your wallet.

I'd be talking to my RNY about getting scoped to make sure the mechanics of my pouch was in order or see a NUT or PSY or maybe a different RNY doc to help get your head back in the game.    Until your tool is broken (which can be fixed) it is still there for you to utilize, no matter how many years out.   Look at the pregnancy board.  Those women lose, get pregnant, gain and lose again; some do it with several pregnancies; the TOOL ALWAYS WORKS IF YOU WORK IT.   Best Wishes that you find what works for you.

I'm not a doctor but I do not agree with the advice of using plastics as a way to lose weight.

A good plastic surgeon will tell you you must be at your goal weight and a healthy BMI before having surgery....most want you stable for at least 6 months.  There are some rare cases as Red mentioned that removing an extremely large panni is done so someone can then exercise and continue to lose all their weight before any more plastics are done.

I don't want to sound mean or nasty but perhaps you just have to knuckle down, go back to the beginning/basics to get your weight lose started again.  Have you talked to the surgeon who did your WLS or to your Nutritionist?  Be honest with them so they can figure out how to help you and more importantly with yourself.

Good luck!

Hi There!
I had gastric bypass on July 10, 2008. Im 5-2 and I went from 239 to currently 142. I got my tt date today for April 14th, but all my doctors wanted to know if I had this weight for a while. I have been pretty stable for about 4months now. With the extra skin removal , I hope it will be about 8pounds. I will be content. I
I highly suggest that you lose the weight first.

so, please lose ur weight and then consider plastic.
