Pain Meds ~ When Were You Able to Take OTC?

I will be in Costa Rica for 2 weeks & I have asked my PS what type of pain medication I will receive - he told me they have strong pain medicines - Morphine & Codiene (yeah!!)

I am wondering how many days were you on prescription pain meds? They do not have Vicodin in CR - so I will ask my PCP when I see her next week for  "middle ground" pain med.

Just wondering how long you were all on the strong stuff?

I had the pain pump for 1 1/2 days while in the hospital, then came home with Vicodin which I took around the clock for about 6-7 days Probably could have done withouth them after the 5th day but I just wanted to make sure the pain was reall gone.   Started OTC Tylenol yesterday.

I had Morphine while I was at the hospital/clinic and then once I was in the hotel, I was using OTC stuff.  It worked fine for me.  So I was on Morphine from Wed to Sat (my surgery was Wednesday am) - 3 days.

Were you lucid & coherent on the morphine? Or do you even remember it?

I was told I would be staying 1 night in the clinic - then to the recovery Inn. I was hoping for Vicoden for a few days at the Inn - they do not have that in CR - I'm not sure if they give morphine or codiene at the inn.

I am having lipo in my arms & waist - that is what I am concerned about. I don't think Tylenol will cover that pain. My PS did say that he would give me whatever I needed to cover the pain - I was just wondering how long until the pain is manageable with OTC. We will be there for 2 weeks - and I was hoping to fly home on just OTC meds. - and not in a morphine haze.

Yes - I have already packed stool softeners & hard core laxatives (just in case!!)

I had an anchor cut, full thigh lift, breast lift w/ aug, and full revision arm lift. The surgery lasted all day Saturday. It is Tues today (I think?) and I stopped taking the pain meds yesterday. So it was two days for me and I haven't even taken a Tylenol today. Best of luck to you in Costa Rica. I am in MX, had surgery with Dr. Sauceda and the experience has been AWESOME. My best to you.
