Where do I start?

Hello everyone!

I guess it's a great thing that I'm over here on this board now after having my VSG back in November 2008.  It means that I have made it to my goal, but it also means that I need a little bit of work done.  I'm not sure exactly where to start, so I thought I'd pop over here and ask those who had been before me.

First of all, I've lost 150lbs.  I've maintained for close to a year now and I don't fluctuate much.  I exercise almost everyday.  I've been running mostly for cardio, and I am having some real issues with my excess skin around my belly.  It's not bad enough to really see in clothes, but this summer is going to be rough in a bathing suit.

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield, HMO.  I'd love to have my insurance pay for my plastics!  It's the least they could do since I paid out of pocket for my WLS.   I guess my question is where do I start in the process to find out if I can expect them to cover any or all of what I need done?  My assumption is that I need to talk to my PCP and find out what he thinks.  My only concern is that I see a lot of people talk about the need to document skin rashes etc.. before insurance will pay, but I don't really have any of that.  Mine is mostly just because it hinders my exercise regimen.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I am probably blessed and not the norm but I have BCBS underwrittenby MESSA and my insurance paid for both my gastric bypass and my recent tummy tuck.  For both procedures I just researched doctors in my area, went for a consultation and for my TT the surgeon wrote a letter to the insurance company with the lenght of the pannis, etc.  We also asked about a thigh lift and breast lift but they would only cover the TT.  I guess my advice is find an area plastic surgeon that specializes in WLS patients and then go for a consult.  The good ones know how to help with insurance.

Well you've lost 150 pounds and I am sure have a panni that hangs low. Do you have back pain? All that can help. Get a referral to a PS from your PCP and see if they will file insurance and if necessary help with an appeal. Good luck.

It's amazing you don't have rashes with working out. The more I ran and worked out the worse mine got.
