Seroma after Panniculectomy

I am 4 months out from  a Panniculectomy and was diagnosed about a six weeks ago with bilateral seromas(one on the left and one on the right side), I've had two ultrasounds and the last time the seromas were getting smaller. The surgeon stated that I should wear the binder and limit my activity and see if they go away. No aspiration has taken place. I have a follow up ultrasound next week and based on how I feel I sense there is still fluid build up in there. My choices are to have them aspirated or to have drains reinserted. I want a long term solution so I can move on. Have any of you had this issue and what was done about it? I understannd this is a very common complication. The last thing I wan to do is to have drains inserted but if this is the solution that will provide me with the best outcome I am ready.

Any input you can provide on your experience is appreciated.

Thanks

Mine was so uncomfortable at 3 weeks out I did have it aspirated and they drained 375 CC's but didn't feel relief. A week  later I was in the hospital with an infection. I might have waited had I know what I do now but in your case at 4 months I'd ask for an aspiration or get some lymphatic massages. Sometimes the lymphatic system is damaged and needs to learn to reroute or rework.

I am afraid to ask this, but what is a seroma and how do you know that you have one?

thanks,
Pam

A seroma is a pocket full of fliuid that forms between layers of skin. You will hear the fluid moving around and experience some discomfort as a result of it.
