Hi All,
Ok will someone please talk me down... I'm freaking myself out a little bit. I have my 1st PS on Tuesday and I've waited and wanted this for so long but now I'm nervous and wondering if I'm doing the right thing. Yet I know I am. When I think about not doing it, I just can't even imagine living the rest of my life with this sagging skin! However, the PS journey is so long and there is so many things that can go wrong, so I'm freaking myself out a bit. I'm so used to working out 5 days a week and the idea of being inactive scares me. I don't want to gain weight from not being able to exercize. Did you all feel this way too before you had your 1st surgery?

Thanks,

Sandi

Hi Sandi, you're a little further ahead than I am - I still have more weight to lose before plastics so I can't offer you advice based on experience. Like you I didn't have WLS so plastics will be major surgery for me and definitely scary. I know when you're completely healed you will be so pleased with your decision. Good luck with your PS.

Hi Sandi,

Join the club.....all you are describing is perfectly normal....you will go up and down about this both pre and post surgery.

I got scared before each procedure and then usually a day or so before I get excited again.  I always ask myself at least once "should I really do this, do I really want to go this (again)?".  I always end answering YES I want it and YES it is worth it and YES I would do it all again.

I had a TT in Sept....recovery was great....I got back to doing my full Cardio routine before having my LBL in Dec.  Since the LBL I only got back to full cardio workout a few weeks ago (I had a complication to deal with after the LBL so it kept down a little longer).  Now I just had the Inner Thighs and Arms done so once again I can't exercise.  I am worried each time because I don't want to gain BUT I am so good and so focused on eating healthy that I have NEVER ended up with a weight gain even though I've gone as long as 3 full months doing NO exercise.  I'm not suggesting or promoting taking it easy for 3 months but I'm trying to say if you are careful and at least do some daily walking about your house you can maintain your weight.

Hope that helps
TTFN

Moosie:Thank you for your reply. I'm relieved to hear that you have had these same feelings and also that you have gone through this a couple of times and still think it was worth it. I'm happy to hear that even without excercise you maintained your weight. I had planned and even spoke to my surgeon about being able to walk around as tolerated. I have pre-cooked my meals and a I am really dilligent about eating a healthy, balanced diet. It's hard to see the other side of this when still on this side of the journey. It's so nice to have people who have been there to give you hope and perspective. God bless you in your continuing recovery.

Most of us have said the same things to ourselves. Like I said in my other post, unless they walk in our shoes, no one really understands what it's like to live in this shell of excess skin. Yes you are worth it and you will love how you look when it's all said and done!

Those first few weeks your body needs the extra nutrition to heal. Now is not the time to worry about eating less just so you won't gain. Dr Lo says that on here over and over. You will also have swelling so you will most likely see a few more pounds on the scale. Don't let that scare you. So even if you do gain 2 or 3 pounds it's not the end of the world. Really. Just know that you will be back to normal eventually and you WILL get back to your normal exercise routine and you will lose any extra pounds you gain (I bet you won't) and you'll look better than ever!

Good luck!

Melissa:Thank you for your encouragement and well wishes. I will make sure to eat properly. I have pre-cooked meals high in protein and low in sodium for myself and froze them for my husband and sons to reheat for me. I heave read other's post about the swelling and I am planning to try to not weight myself at least for a little bit. I don't want to get discouraged if the scale goes up.
It's so nice to read you all write about how happy you are that you went through with PS. It gives me hope. Right now I can't even fathom what I will look like without the skin, so it's hard to imagine what it will be like on the other side of this journey. I so appreciate being able to discuss this with you all who have been through this. It makes it much easier. Thank you. God bless.
