My Post Op with Dr. Lo - Drains OUT!!!!!!
Okay - I must say first that I am in no way being paid or asked to sing praises of my surgeon - I just have very strong opinions and if I DONT like something I make it known (have I told you about my DRAINS???) But if I love something I also make it known. Im that type of person who might even call a McDonalds Manager to tell them their window person was super friendly.
That out of the way, today I had my post-op appt. I walked in and straight back for my appt. Though of course they also have the little comforts in the waiting room such as cold drinks (my daughter thinks this is cool - lol) Got all my vitals taken, got an ultrasound of that one side which had been holding a little clot of blood before (clot still there but not bigger so that's a good thing!). All the staff bringing me back and doing this were super kind and professional, joked around with me (cause that's the kind of gal I am).
Dr. Lo then came in and double checked that clot and made an attempt to aspirate the clot but it was a little too thick. I was a little worried about a needle going in and sucking in there -but he was super quick and gentle and aside from the mosquito like pinch I felt nothing at all!
Then came the removal of the tubes. I heard from others on the board that their surgeons had these super long tubes and that though it didn't hurt - it was icky feeling. Dr. Lo told me exactly what to expect and I closed my eyes. He quickly snipped the stitch and removed the maybe 6in of tubing. In fact I didn't know he did it. I was sitting there telling him about the burny side (which still burns a little but better by the hour) and he asked me how bad it was when I realized.....it's done! LOL!
We talked about my double chin on my boobs which appears to be swelling more or less coming over from the lipo to my bra-line. He explained how they occured and showed us how to "hammock" them in to train them to go away.
We talked about what I;ve been doing post op and what I should be doing and not doing and I got clarification that it's OK to lay a little flatter than I had been. I actually did myself a disservice trying to lay with my feet up (because I felt my drain was pulling) and that's why I got my little swelly belly going - but now I know and can change that.
My 6yr old came along for the visit and he was quick to tell her of the fish in the pond out back and made sure to let us know that when we come in 10 days to remind him to let her feed the fish - which she talked about the whole way home.
I look forward to my next appt and Im looking forward to the days ahead WITHOUT THOSE DRAINS! I know that anytime I have a question - the surgeon is one phone call away as well as his knowledgeable staff. Heck - he even pops on here on occasion with the latest research and ideas on how you can deal with your insurance!:)
The entire visit was awesome, informative and I felt incredibly relaxed and confident. I cannot say this enough, if you are in Houston, Greater Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, etc. Basically an hour or two away - at least come consult with this surgeon. If you dont like him or feel confident that he is for you (and hey - maybe he isn't!) then search elsewhere - but I really think you should meet him. Look at my pictures! Look at my experiences - look at the MANY others on this boards pics and experiences and lastly VISIT for yourself. You will not be disappointed!
On an Ending note (thank goodness - cause I just wrote like a whole book!) - I feel 100% less depressed now that those drains are out. I love that I can lay down, pee, move at all without a yanking sensation. It makes me feel a lot less "broken."

Hi,
So glad to hear you got your drains out....such a relief I know!
The blood clot thing sounds scary but glad it seems to be well under control.
I love my surgeon too , it's hard not to gush about them when they do such good work. :-)
Glad you are doing well!!!

It sounds scary - but it was scarier right off the bat. they thought they might have to go back in - but they didn't have to. Basically my surgeon said that my blood vessel routing was very complex when he got in there - Im thinking this is probably due to the many pelvic surgeries I had in the past (ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer). Nothing of his fault.
The needle thing really didn't hurt - but again - it was a psychological thing for me. I didn't feel anything when the actual needle when in but I KNEW what was going on and that creeped me out! LOL!

Mine really didn't hurt...the right still stings and stung (but it didn't sting anymore with him pulling than without!)

The only reason I took mine out was because I wasn't draining anymore and it was like a Friday and I wasn't schedule for my next appt till Tuesday and I wanted them out ASAP! I called and asked them if it was a problem if I did it myself since I knew exactly what to do and I had the gloves and everything I needed. I just held by breath and pulled!
