Hi Everyone-
I am relatively new to this board.
After an intense but brief search, I have decided to go with Dr. Mitchell Krieger in Virginia as my plastic surgeon. (please write me if you had work with him - I need all the reassurance I can get!).
Due to my travel situation, we have decided to schedule my procedures for NEXT WEEK. I will be having a LBL and a BA and BL.
Now, I have to run around like a crazy now and get things in order! I thought I would have more time, but this allows the most time for recovery.  So! -- found a babysitter to help out my ex with the kids, arranged to switch my house for his apartment (for me) during recovery so I can have everything on one floor and will be looking into a lift recliner chair....going to get the mammography and blood tests (cross your fingers for me there - hope they are ok).
What else should I do to prepare? What do I need with me? I will be pretty much alone - with a good friend dropping by when I call.  Does anyone have a list of things that help with healing? recovery? anything? Thanks!!

The things that helped me the most was my lift chair so I wouldn't have to worry about the lever on a recliner or force my legs to push the leg part down, a grabber because I kept dropping my cell and remote on the floor, stool softeners, protein, protein and more protein, water, and a toilet seat riser. For convenience I got me a rolling hospital tray that I just LOVE. I, ate, put my drinks on it, used my laptop, paid my bills, etc. on that thing. Then I just rolled it out of the way when I was done. It was just easier for me to sit in a cushioned chair than a hard one. I would make some food beforehand and freeze it since you will be by yourself. You may also want to keep any drinks, plates, etc at counter level so you won't have to reach for them since you will be hunched over those first few days.

Not sure how long it will be before your surgeon will let you shower, but you may want to have someone around when you take your first couple of showers. Some women have fainted or come pretty close to it when they take their binder or compression garment. Oh, and you'll need a lanyard or tie a shoe string to put on your neck so you can pin your drains to them when you shower.  I also wore loose dresses to wear to the dr the first week or two since it was easier and I was so swollen. You may want to take a pillow for the ride home to help you stay comfortable for your ride home.  I took a small fuzzy blanket too since I am always cold.

Something I used for my LBL and used this last round was a plastic rolling drawer thingie. I slept in the recliner for a couple of weeks so that was convenient for me. I have my hand wipes, pills, vitamins, tissues, magazines, book and anything you can think of in there. It was just nice to have it nearby. I even kept protein bars in there for my first surgery. I got this idea from TotalFreedom. I probably over prepared if that's possible but I was all about making it as easy as possible. And I'm glad I did. I didn't need anything when I came home.

You will be impressed with the care you get from Dr K. and the hospital.  He is on top of everything and the nurses are real sweet.  The hospital even has a Starbucks.  Don't bring much to the hospital.  Slip on shoes, teeth stuff, cell phone and charger, and ear plugs.

Be sure and take a stool softener for each and every pain pill you take.

I covered my whole end table with a tray, a giant coaster so to speak.

Don't be shy about taking your pain pills.

Avoid salt.

PM if you want to talk.  I think the world of Dr. Krieger.  Loris
