LOWER BODY LIFT: PAIN FIVE WEEKS OUT?

I just realized I have not posted on here in a very long time.

I had my lower body lift on February 12th so as of last Friday I am five weeks out.  The sutures are healing well and give me NO pain.

However--I have this "pulling" sensation in my abdomen just under the breast bone and real pain if I try to do anything!   Last night I tried to push down the seal on a plastic container of leftovers and pain shot through my mid-section.  The same thing happens if I try to lift a bag of groceries or the bag of kitty litter for my cat.  Sometimes I also get a pain in the lower right groin area--like a "pulled groin muscle".

Have I done something wrong or is this normal?  I am back in my abdominal brace today because it hurts if I move the wrong way.   I have tried to be careful but this setback worries me.

Any information will be sincerely appreciated.
This too will pass, like a kidney stone but it will pass!

Can you tell me about the intial pain and how you felt right after the surgery was done? Did you go home the same day as the surger or stay in the hospital. When did you stop taking  pain med...?

Thinking of having this surgery in april and have some questions. Hope you don't mind. You also said you butt is now flat.. in one of the post you wrote.. the surgeon I had said that would not happen.. Did your surgery tell you the same thing?

Congrats on the surgery and hope you don't mind the questions.
Thanks

My surgery was done in a facility not the hospital so I went home right after.  The pain getting into the car and then home was incredible but I just gritted my teeth and made it okay.  My doctor insists on sending a nurse home with you for the first 12 hours--she stayed all night long.  I was SO grateful to have her because my husband would have been totally panicked on his own.  She taught us how to do the drains, helped me to the bathroom, monitored my pain, and was a great comfort.  Since I had a catheter when I came home, she also removed that the next morning before she left after checking with the doctor.

They will give you Loritab or something similar for pain.  I needed it every 4-6 hours the first week.  The worst of the pain is not from the sutures but from the drains--they feel like they are pulling out, it stings and burns and every little movement aggravates them.

My butt was totally flat before the surgery--I lost 140 pounds total with my bypass.  To be honest, I don't mind having a flat butt after having a HUGE one for so many years!

I still take pain medication at night.  After working a ten hour shift, then going home, making dinner, moving around, I generally have some pain by the end of the day.  It also helps me fall asleep.   My surgeon's nurse told me this morning that as I move around and stretch the muscles that have been tightened by the surgery, there will be some pain.  I guess what I am experiencing is normal.  It can last several months according to the nurse.  It is not AWFUL pain--just an aggravating pain--tenderness that reminds me that I am still not 100%.

I hope this helps.  Feel free to contact me again if you wish!

hi, I had LBL Nov 16 and still get muscle pain, my surgeon said this is normal as everything heals and we begin to use these muscles again. One concern would be a hernia, do you have any bulging?I remembering asking at 7 weeks out when I could ski etc...he said now, that I wouldn't hurt anything but could still pull muscles...maybe you've pulled/strained a muscle. I still can't do a sit up or leg raises...I have to train the muscles to work together again. If your concerned, put a call into he surgeon. hope you feel better soon.

I did call the doctor's office.  The nurse said this was normal as I move around the the tightened muscles stretch a little bit.  Thank you for the feedback!

You are still early out and you may have overdone something without you knowing. I really didn't have any pain that far out but more soreness and really only when I used my muscles a lot. I eased back into doing stomach exercises in excerise class because that's when I felt sore the most. Give it some more time.
