PAIN comparison

I had  a great deal of pain with my RNY. I did have a revision and had tons of scarring and needed 5 hours during surgery and 5 days before being released from the hospital. Compared to that scenario, how painful is TT? Breast lift? Etc? Thanks for sharing.
All time high...280 in summer of 2009. Approx. 276 when I first weighed in at Cleveland Clinic

I didn't have much pain from my RNY. But everyone I have asked says the WLS pain is insignificant compared to the pain felt after plastics.  I'll be interested to see what others post here.

I do not think any of my plastics have been more or less painful than my DS.  I get dilaudid and morphine in the hospital and I am sent home with dilaudid.  But then too -- I never have any memory of pain.  I know there must have been pain since I took pain killers but I do not remember being incapacitated by it.

My TT and lip was just 2 1/2 weeks ago so the pain is still fresh in my mind. In comparison to my RNY, I'd have to say the TT was much more painful... but still it is only temporary. With RNY, I stayed 3 days in the hospital and with the TT was outpatient. For both procedures, I was sent home with Hydrocodone for about a week and it was fine. Also in both cases, as long as I was at rest I was relatively painfree... it was just shifting, standing, moving, coughing, etc that was the issue.

Everyone is so dramatically different on how we experience and deal with pain its difficult to say how you will feel. One common thread I saw on these boards was that at about 2 weeks people were feeling somewhat human again.... and that was true for me.

One thing I wasn't totally prepared for with the TT was the impact that swelling would have on how I would feel... and how often I would have it... like most of the time.... and that it would be an issue for 6 - 12 months.

Just remember... the pain is only temporary... and the benefit is worth it.

I am five weeks out from lower body lift.  Pain wa worst when I sneezed, coughed, or moved the wrong way for the first week.  Even now coughing and sneezing can hurt really badly!

Gastric bypass pain -- I had 8 hours of surgery, complications with leaking, and 11 days in hospital--I was on a lot of morphine so I really don't remember much about the pain.  When I got home, I was on liquid loritab.   The worst part was not the pain but the weakness from RNY.

That said--I am managing the pain with liquid loritab---which I still take after being up at my job for 10-12 hours.  I can move around but feel more comfortable if I wear my abdominal brace--not always something I can do when in the office.  I am wearing it today because I am having some "pulling" sensation in the mid-section.    I think ANYTHING that involves the abdomen is going to hurt because that is your CORE--you use those muscles for everything.  Last night I got real pain from just trying to push down the lid on a plastic container!  I didn't realized how much my abdomen is involved in every movement I make!
This too will pass, like a kidney stone but it will pass!

Hmmm.  I had 3 c-sections.  Then a RNY.  Then an extended TT & Breast lift 2 years ago, and now lipo and implants on March 12th.  Obviously it's bearable cuz I keep going back!

I would have to say that each time, it seems severe, yet after a while, you kinda forget about how severe the pain is because you see the results???  If you have kids, its like the saying that the mother forgets how bad childbirth hurts and is ready to have another...LOL...

With the tummy tuck, there are drains, which aren't pleasant.  I felt like a brand new person when the surgeon finally took those out!  And it took me maybe 4 weeks plus to be able to walk standing up straight because of the muscle repair and being pulled so tight.  And I handled the pain with meds and sleep.  Same with the breast lift.  You learn to have a pillow over your tummy to pull into yourself when you feel a sneeze or cough coming on (they tought us that trick with the c-sections).  And I had my hubby help to pull me off the toilet or up from the chair every time I needed to "go".  He's been a trooper all these years.

I have had a RNY, full abdominoplasty and breastlift/implants and I have to say that the Plastics have been much worse!  I just had my surgery March 16th, and i'm still experiencing quite a bit of pain and swelling.  One thing that is hard for me is wearing the compression garment.  I am not allowed to take it off at all and it is so tight!  My only relief is at the Dr.'s office when they change my dressings and give me a little massage....I dread the end of the appointment when they zip me up again!

I've had RNY, Breast Reduction, TT w/ Panni and I have to say the TT w/Panni was the worst. The first week was pretty rough so I took my pain meds religiously but I am 2 weeks out today and have little or no pain. I think its different for everybody and has alot to do with how you tolerate pain.
