Brazil? Costa Rica? Thoughts/experience?

Hi
I am looking to choose a doc and have scheduled multiple consults locally.  I had my sleeve with Aceves in Mexico and would prefer to pay less, so I am also looking at Sauceda (no pics of anyone - frustrating!!)
My big question is about Brazil or Costa Rica. It makes sense to me that Brazil would have innovative, good surgeons in this area but I haven't heard of anyone on the board who has gone there. Is there a reason? Has anyone used Brazil?
Costa Rica is appealing also because of the aftercare facilities!
I found Aceves v. good but was incredibly bored during recovery and the prospect of being somewhere so desolate alone and in recovery for an even longer period of time is daunting.
Does anyone have names for Brazil or Costa Rica?
How much has it been worth it for those who stay in the US to have the doc at hand?

Thanks!

I am going to CR and recovering at Che Tica Ranch.
Here is theri web site:
http://www.cheticaranch.com/

I plan on staying 2 weeks. The price includes all meals - pick up at the airport & all visits to the doctors.

You can also hitch a ride into town (San Jose) when the driver is taking someone else to an appointment & shop, etc. For those who are having minor work done - the racnh offers excursions to the rain forrest, volcanoes, etc. I am having major work done - so I paln on doing nothing!! :-)

i plan on spendind the 2 weeks healing,  reading, watching movies & bird watching from the deck. It sits on 80 acres.

I don't know anything about Brazil.

WHEN YOU COME BACK I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOUR PICS AND THEN ALSO HEAR ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE.  I LOOKED INTO THAT PLACE AS WELL AND AM JUST DECIDING ON WHERE TO GO.

I HAVE ALSO LOOKED IN COSTA RICA AT:

Please call me at my US phone number 1-631-983-6428 or email me back here at [email protected] if you have further questions.

One of the girls started a Sauceda page. You can finds tons of info and pictures from his patients. Their is a sticky at the top of the page with people's blogs about their experience. I think you have to request to be a member of the group, but it's worth it. TONS of info.

Best of luck on your search.
Robin

Here's the link to the page.

Thanks, Robin.
I did look and there aren't any pictures of afters that I can see. I need to see his style of work! His website also has very little.  I think if you friend people you can see them but it would be a long process to see any number of them.
Anyone have suggestions?

There are some pics on his website but they are outdated. Go to livingtheskinnylife.blogspot.com. That's Jessica and her pics are on there. Tammy and Cassandra have their blogs in their sigs and they have pics on their blogs.

We have to make our pics private to protect them. Choose 2 or 3 Sauceda patients. And join the group. That's the quickest way to get info.

Also if you email Dr. Sauceda at [email protected] I bet he has some pics to show you.

I had my plastics done locally so the only question I can answer is your last one.

How much has it been worth it for those who stay in the US to have the doc at hand?

That was a very important issue for me. I wanted immediate access to my surgeon if problems were to arise. Another thing to take into consideration is that as weight loss surgery patients our skin issues are different and more challenging for plastic surgeons. Often times revisions are needed or wanted. In my case I've had a revision to my tummy tuck incision and will also be having a revision to my breast augmentation. The revisions are not because of a lack of skill on my surgeon's part but because of my weight loss and skin condition. They are more like tweaks to get everything the way we want it. If I had to travel back and forth out of the country for that at my expense it would not be worth it to me and I would probably pass up on the revision work. For me personally it has been well worth it to stay locally and I love my surgeon!

BTW I understand the need to go abroad. I did for bith my sleeve and PS. It's very important to have your PCP on board. With my PCP  I had a drain issue, then a seroma and developed an infection that needed surgery. My PCP has been fine to get a surgeon to help me and has coordinated all my care but if he hadn't been on board I would have needed to travel back to Monterrey. I was too sick at that point.

Be prepared in that area. The potential complications are more complicated than that with the sleeve.
