Here I go again.....2 weeks from now I'm back in surgery

Well I can hardly believe it but I'm only 2 weeks away from what should be my final big procedure.  After this the only thing that can be done would be if I have any minor revision work done and I'm not sure if I would do it.  I'm really tired of having surgery and trying to recover.  I need to take at least 6-9 months off after this next one.

ANYHOW.........
I'm having my Inner Thighplasty (long incision) done 2 weeks from tomorrow.  At the same time I'm having the revision done to my arms.  I'm hoping the incision won't be as bad as the first time.
I'm hearing that this is the worst surgery......the most painful tool!  I have a high level of pain tolerance but I'm nervous about this one.
Soooooo to those of you who had the Inner Thighplasty with the long incision...give it to me straight.....I've got my big girl panties on so I can take it....

How bad is it?
How long before you can get in/out of bed by yourself?
How long before you can sit without pain (like sitting on the toilet)?
How about clothing....is it better to wear nightgowns instead of pj pants??
Did you wear a below the knee garment when you left surgery......If so did having the garment rubbing on the incisions hurt??
If I plan to stay doped up for 2 days will I be ok or at least better by day 3?
How bad was the swelling....did it stay localized to your legs or go to the butt and tummy??

Did you have your arms done at the same time?  I'm having a revision to my arms and I'm hoping it won't make it impossible for me to move on my own within 3 or 4 days (or maybe 5).
How difficult is it having your arms done at the same time as the legs??

Any tips you can share on what to do or what to avoid to make the pain tolerable would sure be appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can share.

I'm interested in the answers too. It's 2 weeks, 3 days til my full thigh lift, breast lift with aug, and hopefully an arm revision. Sounds like we'll be recovering together.

Hi Robin,
I like having a surgery sister....we can compare notes.
What kind of arm revision are you having?  This is my 2nd revision....I'm hoping 3rd time is going to be the charm (FYI - this is the first time my current surgeon is working on them and I'm confident he can fix them).

Forgive me - what is an arm revision? Was the first surgery done wrong? Is the scar bad?

I am having my arms done in 75 days (who's couting - right?) and wondering what/why a revision. Do you have more skin you want removed?

Thanks!!

Hi
A revision is basically a "re-do" of a procedure....usually a minor correction/fix.
With my arms the surgeon left way too much skin.  From day one post-op I told him it seemed like he left too much on.  At my 3 month post-op he agreed to do a revision which would include lipo and removing the extra skin.  Well as they had me all hooked up and ready to be rolled into surgery the surgeon told me he decided he'd only do lipo that day.  I was shocked but went along with it because I wasn't thinking straight.  I should have said NO and stopped everything but I didn't.  Anyhow....he did the lipo but now I have more empty wrinkled skin hanging so I need it taken off.  The original surgeon wanted to charge me a 3rd time and so I said to myself I have to find another surgeon....enough is enough.
So I found a new surgeon (who I adore!) and he will do the final revision on my arms at the same time as he does my inner thighs.
Hope that helps!!!

Here is the link to my thigh lift questions I asked a week or so ago.  You might find it helpful.

How bad is it?

Well since you aren't having the full arm lift, it may not be so bad.  The first 48 hours were the worst for me.

How long before you can get in/out of bed by yourself?

Since you will most likely be able to use your arms it may not be long at all depending on how extensive it really is.  Yesterday was the first time I even tried to get up from the sofa from a lying position and that was because I was afraid to use my arms to push up my entire weight any sooner.  I used my stomach muscles to help get me up.

How long before you can sit without pain (like sitting on the toilet)?

The first 3 or 4  days were the worst for sitting down.  It took me that long to realize (after I peed all over myself)  that I didn't HAVE to sit down to go to the bathroom.  I basically squatted over the toilet and that wasn't bad.  I got the freshette out and used it but It was just as easy to do it the other way.  I still have to take it easy when I sit down.

How about clothing....is it better to wear nightgowns instead of pj pants??

For just the legs, I'd wear something like a gown or a loose dress.  I've been using a zip up robe and large button down shirts with elastic shorts.  If I were by myself I wouldn't even bother with shorts and just use a large mens dress shirt as a gown.  I only wore pants one time to go to the dr.  It's okay but I preferred to be "free".  My dr said  you need to keep your legs open a bit to let the incisions in the crease of your groin air out so they won't stay moist.  Mine are exactly on the crease.  Of course my incisions go pretty far back too because I had some saggy skin still at the very bottom inch of my butt.  They wanted to go as far as possible without having to turn me over.

Did you wear a below the knee garment when you left surgery......If so did having the garment rubbing on the incisions hurt??

I had a compression garment to the calf at first but switched to the ace wraps after I accidentally peed all over it.  I wore those for a few days.  I finally put the compression back on today.  I had lipo on my knees so the ace wraps kept unravelling at the back of my knee and the garment provides an even compression down to my calves.  Anything that rubs my incision still hurts but not as much as those first few days.  It's still very tender .  The pain pills really helped with that though.  I loved just being still and reclining because I wouldn't hurt then.

If I plan to stay doped up for 2 days will I be ok or at least better by day 3?

You should be better by day 3.  There will still be some discomfort though but not as bad. I asked for help to get up as long as I could just to make it easier on myself.  Why hurt to get up if you have someone to help you up, right?   It's no problem now.

How bad was the swelling....did it stay localized to your legs or go to the butt and tummy??

Can't answer that since I didn't just have the one procedure.  But I bet I'll swell forever! LOL

Did you have your arms done at the same time?  I'm having a revision to my arms and I'm hoping it won't make it impossible for me to move on my own within 3 or 4 days (or maybe 5).

Yes

How difficult is it having your arms done at the same time as the legs??

It was difficult for me at first.  Enough to make me think, what was I thinking??   My arm incision was very extensive and went down the side of my chest to under my breast.  I'll be 1 week tomorrow and it has gotten easier and I've become more mobile now.   This recovery has taken the longest to get to a point where I can say I don't hurt anymore.  The most pain from the LBL was when I sneezed!  Wish I could fast forward a month!  LOL  I'm ready to get this recovery over with.

Good luck!

WOW thanks for all the great information Melissa!!!

How you feeling?  Sounds like you are doing really well....so glad for you!!
I bought a freshette months ago and already have it packed in my surgery bag but may just try standing over the toilet.

LOL I wonder how far around he will take my incision....

Thanks again for all the info!!!!

Hi Ruth,
well here it is, the arms are not bad at all actually it was the easiest surgery for me.
inner thighs  - first I had a raised toilet seat and when my legs would hang down they hurt so I had a little stool in front of me when I sat on the toilet, my les were so tight and they swlled down to my feet, I had a compression garment down to mid calf and I wore TED stockings because of the swelling that lasted about 2 week then after I wore a comrssion garment to my knees and it did not hurt againsy the incision.
clothing was hard to get pants on cause I couldn't bend if u have someone to help u put them on iin the a.m. then u r ok.I sat in the recliner all the time whike I was sitting up . I could get in   bed after day 3 but I needed help to get out, actually the first week was the worst but it wasnt bad walking. I didn't drive for 2 to 3 weeks I was scared cause it is hard bending at the knee. my icisoions never split up top but near the knee it was so tight it split a little and I just put steri strips and it healed fine, when they swell you tink they will tear apart but they dont. my PS doesn't use staples so they are stithed on the inside & I had steri strips on the outside.
I wish u the best of luck, cant wait to see ur arms

Hi Susan!
Thanks for the info.  I had not thought about bending over being a problem....thanks for the heads-up.   I hate that feeling of swelling so tight that I feel like I'm going to pop....I had that with my face...man on day 5 I thought I was going to pop and then it started going down THANK God!!!

I'm really hoping the arm revision is not too bad and I'm hoping this is the final time....3rd time is the charm, right.

I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for the info and support.

Hi Ruth, Yes, the inner thighs was the most painful for me but you should sail through like you did your other surgerys.  Iam so glad that my arms will be my last surgery. It is hard to believe that is 15 days since I had them done. They are still sore and sometimes I want to do more then I should as I forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I cant wait until I am all healed up. I go to the doctor tomorrow.
Defintely go with a nightgown only, defintely easier to go to the bathroom!!!!!!!!! and you will defintely need those pain pills for a while.  Take it easy and let me know how you make out.
Take care.   Gail
