I could not believe this!  This really riled me up for you!  They can NOT hold you hostage.  Either just choose another hospital or just get up and leave when your dr. gives you the ok.  I can just imagine what my DH would have said if they had tried to get more money from him while I was still in the hospital.  It would have been world war 3, flat out!
Good luck with your surgery and don't believe this bull crap!

It's funny you saidthat. I told the lady in admitting that if Ididn't have the money what were they going to do, make me wash hospital gowns?? LOL She said the would "bill" me. They personally gave me my bill before Iwas released for my first surgery at a different hospital. I wonder what the would have said if we would have told them, Sorry, but we can't pay today???

Here is the letter I have Written to give to the hospital upon my admission for surgery:

To Whom It May Concern:

I am a self-pay patient and am aware of my financial responsibility for services rendered and have every intention of paying what I owe, should my surgery go over the schedule OR time.

HOWEVER - I do request that you respect that my surgery is not only physicially stressful for myself, but emotionally stressful for my husband (who will be concerned about me and my healing as well as other obvious stressors such as childcare) - and that you do not request further payment from us UNTIL time for discharge.

Sincerely,

(My Name)

They didn't come by and bill me till I was going to be discharged so I wouldn't include that in the letter.

They SAY they reimburse you automatically and you will see it in 3-4wks. But I DOUBT that happens unless I ask for it. And if it takes them that long to reimburse me - then they can wait that long for my payment if it goes over.

Besides - insurance doesn't reimburse for 60-90 days - if they can wait for that - surely they can wait 3wks for mine!

I saw this post and thought "that sounds like HHSS."    I do not like that policy and have already fixed the quote system we use to lower the chance of that happening.  Conversely, if we go under in time a refund is promptly given. Overages less than 30 min are usually ignored, and the charges are almost never over $500.

Rather than hassle my patient in case of overage, I asked HHSS to keep my credit card on file as a guarantee of payment so they can do an invoice instead.  If a patents skips town, I have a remote control button that makes all their stitches dissolve instantly and deflates their breast implants too.

Reasons to go over vary, but doing several areas or working on larger individuals simply entails more work and more time.  I am very efficient because my OR team are also my personal employees that I bring to the hospital, so I do not need to  "watch the clock."  I know we are always proceeding efficiently.

I like to remind my patients that "Rome wasn't built in a day"  that my fixations in surgery are always safety and the best possible results.

LOL  I just got a visual of that!

Well I'm not a fan of HHSS anyway since that time they sent me home on surgery day after my card didn't go through!

Whaaaaaatttt???

They sent you HOME!? Is this for the original pre-paying? I will have to call in on Thurs to pay over the phone - they didn't accept checks - and my lovely hubby works offshore with the CARD. Haha
