Liposuction Pain

A week ago I had liposuction and a breast lift. My surgeon did lipo on my inner, outter, front and back thighs as well as on my back and sides (in areas that still had some extra fat after my lower body lift).  I was expecting this to be a fairly easy surgery compared to my LBL, but oh boy was I wrong.  I'm a week out and I'm still in SO much pain.  It's hard to walk, I'm swollen, and it feels like there is tons of stinging going on all over my thighs.  Is this normal?  I knew that I would be sore, but I wasn't expecting it to be this intense.  Has anyone had a similar experience? How long dose this pain last?

I had liposuction on my arms in addition to the brachioplasty and when I compare notes with people who've only had the brachioplasty... well, I think the lipo is what makes a big difference in pain level!

You had quite a bit done, so I suppose it's normal to have that much discomfort. I would think the more you could move, without overdoing it, would be helpful in dispersing some of the fluid?

You really took quite a beating from the lipo, so I would imagine it might take at least another week before you feel a lot better. Can you take painkillers of some sort to manage the pain?

Hope you feel better really soon!

I just had a TT with contouing lipo on 2/26, and the lipo areas are much more sore than the TT incision. When I touch it, it's exquisitely tender...I was suprised too. But, I've since heard it's like that for many women. Even today, it's sore, but improving every day.

Hey!  Another Dr. Elariny patient. :)

My surgeon said lipo is the most painful part of this...I wasn't sore to the touch, just bruised all over (or felt like I was)...and I bruise easily.  I still am swollen and will be 6 weeks on Thursday, but I am very very happy with the results!

Yes lipo'd areas can be sore for a long time. I also had quite a bit done on my sides since I still had fat pockets. The only time I felt more soreness was when I took my ace wrap off my abdomen to take a shower. Using your compression garment will help minimize the pain. You had a lot of areas worked on so that in combination with the TT really makes for an uncomfortable recovery. It will get better with time.

In my humble opinion lipo is the worst!
I did not lipo done with my TT or LBL but I did have it done with an arm revision in July 2009.  I still have areas that are totally numb!  Personally if it can be avoided I am staying away from lipo.  I just had some face work done and was surprised to find out they were going to do a little lipo under my chin.....that is only part that still is real sore.

Anyhow....yes Lipo is harder to recover from and the swelling lasts much longer.  Sorry for the bad news.

Hang in there it will eventually get better!

Does pain medication help with the pain? I am having a lot of lipo in my wasit,  hips & arms. I had a total abdonimal hysterectoy in 2001 & was up in the shower the next day - home on post op day 2 & walking around on Vociden for a week or so. The pain wasn't that bad.

Is it so bad you can't sleep?
Thanks!!

The medicine helped-- I was on Percocet for about 5 days and that made things managable (especially because it knocked me out).  Now I'm just on some extra strength Advil that he prescribed.  I also got lipo in my back and sides, and that's isn't all that bad.... so hopefully yours won't be horrible!  The legs are AWFUL though....anytime i'm walking around I am 100% aware of the pain.  Good luck with your surgery though, hopefully you won't have the same problem as me :)

So now you guys have me scared. I am scheduled for a BL/BA and lipo on my hips and mid section of my belly next month. I thought theTT was going to be the killer, but now I am very nervous for the up coming lipo.

If you are also getting a TT, i think the tightening of the muscles takes the focus off the pain of the lipo. Don't be scared....just think of the great results to come. I posted somewhere else....everything i had done was not nearly as bad as i had expected.
