Question / experience dealing w/BCBS?? on BR?
I am new to the PS forum. I just went for a consult with the surgeon last Thursday to look at get a breast reduction. She advised me my insurance BCBS requires 500 grams of tissue removal in order to get approved! Even though I am a 36 H/I, unfortunately it is a lot of skin because of the 130 pound weight loss. My left side, there won't be a problem, but on the right side, she said there will only be a 300 gram removal!
I am upset about this, as I have been to the chiropractor 9 times this year alone for my MAJOR back problems this has been causing me. My husband has to work the knots out of my back nightly.
I had my chiropractors office send over their paperwork, plus my reg. dr. office.
She is going to submit the paperwork for approval anyway. Does anyone know if this is going to be a big fight, as if I am probably going to have to appeal this?
I am in misery all of the time. I am in constant time. It is going to be hard enough just waiting the 6-8 weeks to find out if I am approved!
What is your guys experience on this?
I would appreciate anyones input!
thanks a bunch!
Debbie

Tips, a sample letter, and an online link to BCBS's webpage regarding breast reduction surgery.
All for your reading pleasure at:

By the way, the guidelines as I read them for BCBS do not say 500g needs to be removed, but rather:
"The preoperative evaluation by the surgeon concludes that an appropriate amount of breast tissue, per breast, will be removed, based upon body surface area or total mass to be removed and that there is a reasonable prognosis of symptomatic relief."
