Breast Lift (With and Without Aug) in So. Calif -- Questions
Hi everyone!
I'm horrifying my family by pursuing the possibility of a breast lift (not sure about augmentation) this summer. (kids and hubby are saying "no more surgeries please!" )
I'm just curious -- If you had this surgery (and it's the only one I'm having) in southern California, who did the procedure, how much did it cost, and did you go with implants?
(Lord help me, for a moment there I couldn't think of the word "implants" and the only word that came to mind was "landfill" -- yikes!)
I would like to get it done this spring vacay or over the summer. But I'm collecting Dr. names, and other info.
I have recommendations from my own doctors, but I'm interested in your experience.

Pontoons are good, pontoons are great. But from whom, and at what cost?
(husband just had a fit that I was bringing this up ... AGAIN!!!! Says they are fine, surgery is unnecessary .... etc. I may have to relent. But I still want .... maybe not flotation devices exactly ... but breasts that live in my northern hemisphere would be great.)

Ask Maureen K www.obesityhelp.com/member/greenbean3/ she seemed to have a good surgeon and she's in So. Cal. As you know I went to Dr. S and the price was really reasonable. I'm just starting to really like my perky girls. Not too big thank goodness, D cup so far but could get smaller over the next few months, either way it'll be ok.

Well, not going to Mexico. LA is Plastic Surgery City, and if I can't find someone qualified here then ... don't know what to say. I have a very strong bias against going to Mexico, for many reasons, so that's not happening (glad yours worked out wonderfully well, but not for me.)
I'm still interested in finding out who the WLS-competent reconstructive surgeons are, here, and how much they are charging for lift and/or augmentation. I'll try to connect with your contact.
(Part of making myself happy is making the Corresponding Marital Unit happy -- and I don't know if that can happen if I buy myself something that we both agree is not either medically necessary or required to improve function ... he's nurtured me through several major procedures and he might just be due for a break from all that.)

Charming -- My husband tried to convince me the lift wasn't necessary too...and now he' s like a kid in a candy store (sorry if it's an overshare) ... so, he may say that now, but I'm sure he'll be WOWed once they are done!!? Good luck finding a good surgeon...like you said, you live in the plastic surgery capital!

I asked my doctor at Kaiser WLA plastic surgery for referrals for a friend wanting breast aug. His recommendations were John Gross in the Glendale/Pasadena area. Dr. Gross is also an assistantant clinical professor at USC with Dr. Lee. So that might be someone to check out. You can check out the resident program at USC - website is: http://uscplasticsurgery.net/index.html
I have dealt with several of the residents and can give them high marks. My favorites are Dr. Carey, Dr. Lubbers - who assisted in my arm lift/flank procedure, Dr. Dhillion - who I found to be wonderfully compassionate, as well as Dr. Veeramachaneni. I know that you can book cosmetic procedures through them to be done under the supervision of the clinical professor doctors.
Dr. Lee also recommended Dr. Lisa Jewell, and also from the USC Faculty, Dr. Bala S. Chandrasekhar, MD
My friend lives more in the Corona area, and went with someone who had been referred to me by other physicans in my area of Ontario/Corona and that is Dr. Robert Hardesty in Riverside. He also has experience with post bariatric patients.
As I mentioned on another post to you, I love my lift. So thrilled I had it done. Mine was covered through Kaiser, so I don't know what to tell you about cost. I did get a consult with Dr. Katzen, and I know that his work is good from those I've seen that used him, but I couldn't afford him. My friend who just had the aug paid 5K for saline implants and loves them. Minimal scaring and pain, but she has never been overweight, and our tissues are so different. She did get several quotes and only went with really reputable doctors. She did consult with Dr. Gross - mostly about the gummy bear implants and also saw Dr. Jewell. She liked both, and was comfortable with both, but for her, the distance was a big deal, and that end of LA for us can be 45 min away or 3+ hours depending on time of day and traffic. She was more comfortable closer to home.
Hopefully, that will be helpful to you -
Jennie

Jennie, you rock. You totally rock. You are an amazing source of information, and inspiration. Thank you!!!
That's a lot of info to process, but you better believe I'm going to check those out. I'd go to Riverside for surgery about as quickly as Mexico -- different reasons, different biases -- but there are about half a million plastic surgeons in a two mile radius of my house and can't think f why I'd go there.
(Have you ever SEEN the air in Riverside? or smelled it? )
Anyway, I'm mostly kidding! Except about going to Riverside
Cost is not my major inhibiting factor, though of course I'm paying attention to it. It's just that when all is said and done, $5,000 difference amortized over the rest of my life (30 years?) isn't that much.
'
But ... I might look into the resident program.
You won't believe this, but part of my reticence is that I have a horrible family history for breast cancer. My sister ... my mom ... ugh. And though I've tested negative for BRCA 1 and 2, I still keep thinking I shouldn't bother to have my breasts redone now, and should wait (WAIT?!?!****il someone finds cancer. Isn't that horrible? But it's on my mind.
