Drain ?'s
So when they pull out the drains... Mine, I have 2 in the pubic area,
do they just pull them out and that is it? No sutures to close up the hole or any need to worry about infection?
Reason I am asking is that earlier this week I went in and they could not pull the drains due to some swelling and oozing around the drains so they put me on cephalexin antibiotic. Went back yesterday and they pulled the drains out, slapped some gauze and tape over it and did not seem to considered about the swelling. I know have some tingling around that area and higher up in the stomach where the extending tube may have been located.
I asked about the swelling as my feet are swelled as well, and told this was nornal too.
Just want to know I am ok and should not be going back in.
Thanks!!!

No they don't suture the area. It just closes up itself. I kept some abx ointment and gauze on that area until it stopped oozing and kept a think layer of anti-biotic ointment at the drain site until it was healed over. The swelling can last for a while. If your feet are swelling, you may want to elevate your feet when sitting. Anytime you have concerns, call the PS office. Better to stay on top of things. Lin

They just pull 'em out. Take a deep breath and it will be over in a flash.
You might ooze for a day or so ...I put a sanitary napkin over it and had no problem. No stitches to close the hole...I just had to put neosporin or polysporin on it ...every drain hole I've had has closed up beautifully!
Swelling is normal and it happens sometimes in non-surgery places. After my TT I had basically no swelling in my TT but my thighs and butt blew up like balloons. Then I took the binder off and put on a compression garment and my swelling went down.
Best wishes!!
