How long were you in the hospital?
I have a double (at least) hernia repair/panni on Monday. Yes, that sound you hear is the sound of my teeth chattering with fear lol. Anyway, at my pre-op crap, they charged me for an outpatient co-pay (?). Can anyone tell me how long they were really in the hospital?
Also, these compression garments I keep reading about - is this something that your surgeon gives you in the hospital? I have never had one before for any surgery and am curious. I hope I DO get one, because it sounds like it makes things like coughing (ouch) easier.
Thanks,
Pam

Hi,
I did not have the hernia repair with my TT so I didn't need to stay in the hospital but I think the norm is only 1-2 days.
The compression garment will become your best friend and they serve a real purpose too....keep swelling down....so I recommend you live in it as much as possible. I was in my pretty much 24x7 the first month and then kept it on during the day time for another 2 months (taking it off to sleep).
Most surgeons do provide the garment but I have heard of a few that don't so you might want to double check. But since you said you are having surgery this Monday and if they did not tell you to bring one with you I would think it's safe to assume they are providing one. FYI - you might want to purchase a second one so you have one to change into while the other is in the laundry.
Best wishes on your procedure.

I am always in the hospital several days after any plastics. But I think that is pretty unusual. They have to get my coumadin started and I live about 100 miles from the hospital -- so everyone concerned thinks it is just better for me to stay in the hospital those first couple of days. Plus I get the advantage of the IV pain meds.
I was given my compression garment in the hospital. Check with your surgeon on this.

I stayed 2 nights (out of my choosing) at the guest suites at the surgery center after my procedures. The rooms were exactly like hotel rooms with a recliner. If I had it to do over again, I would have preferred it to be an inpatient procedure. I really feel like monitoring is more necessary than I had initially realized. I am amazed that this is often done as day surgery. I suppose that the positive statistics are there to prove that overnight stays are unnecessary.
I woke up with my garment on and bought a spanx to wear just while mine is washing/drying.
Good luck!

I was in the hospital overnight with my LBL. I woke up with my compression garment on after surgery. I would think that if you needed to purchase your own they would have told you ahead of time. You can always purchase an extra one after surgery. You may even need to purchase a smaller one after the swelling goes down a bit.
