Sutures. Dissolvable, Barbed, Layerd, Permanant or what?
I have had only dissovable for skin closure with no need to have suture removed. Some of them will spit out, and have to be trimmed later - it happens. I've developed a reaction to Biosyn suture, so my surgeon used a barbed suture this last time. I had very little spitting, but did have some. All of my incisions were glued on top of the dissolvable suture, and in some area steristrips were used as well.
I think it is surgeon choice and they each have a way they like to close. Some still use staples - which i'm thankful I didn't have. I hate the feel of removing the staples. What leaves a better scar? Most of that is really variable - what is the skin/tissue like - how well does it heal, along with type of closure. I start with nice thin scars that sometimes tend to spread in the thin tissue areas - like thighs and armpits. You cannot even see, unless really looking, my breast scars, and the lbl scars in the front. In the back, they are a bit wider and darker - no idea why. I really don't like how my leg scars have spread, but those are more related to my thin, overstretched tissues in that area. Staples tend to leave more marks, and suture less, and many feel that the dissovable suture with glue the least. Talk to your surgeon and ask what your closure will be like and why they do it that way.
