LBL compression garment

What type of compression garment did you have after your LBL?  I have been to a  consult and  the surgeon uses a binder for the first 5-7 days and then nothing.  Is this typical?

See my post a few down from this one, if it helps.

The doctor will somehow put you into a postop garment while you are unconscious and on the operating table.  The ones the doctors use are made of a special fiber that can be cut, and still retain its integrity (they can put tubes, drains, etc through it).  Mine had zippers, velcro, straps ... and I also wore some elastic binders on top of it.  Each doctor has his own standards for garment type and duration of wear.

Post-op, I have had horrendous swelling, so I wear firm flexees.  I just recently discovered that part of my swelling was because the garment I was wearing was too large, alack a day.  So I just bought some newer, smaller ones.

I'm about six months out.

Hope this helps!

I'm about 10 weeks out and I am still wearing mine during the day, but not at night.  I can't imagine being without it.  I wear my brachioplasty one 24-7 because it feels good.  IF I work my 12 hour shifts without my garment or even run errands and am out all day, I gain 9-11lbs of excess fluid from the swelling.  So I'd say your doc's recommendations aren't typical, as far as what I've read on here.

My doctor recommended 6 weeks - 24/7 and then as needed after that.

My Dr has me wearing my binder 24/7 for 6 weeks and my surgical bra 24/7 fro 4 weeks. He says it helps with the swelling and helps the skin reattach. It feels so much better when I move around to have my binder on, I am 3 weeks out.

Hi Brenda,

This Friday, I'm 10 weeks out.

My surgeon had me in my binder for 6 weeks for the LBL/Lipo then whatever compression garment I chose, as needed, thereafter.  He even suggested bike shorts if I wanted.  For breast lift, 2 weeks in surgical bra, 2 weeks in sports bra, then move to regular bra during the day, continue with sports bra at night for support if any pain during the night or upon waking.  I was faithful with my compression.

Until about a week ago, I was wearing an Assets by Sara Blakely high-waisted compression short (Target), or Assets light support panty girdle.  I still have slight swelling in my low back and lower abdomen during the day, but I don't wear compression much anymore.  All the swelling goes down at night.

Besides the importance of reducing swelling and helping skin to reattach properly, it just feels better to be supported.  I believe your body tells you when it's ready, and I've never heard of there being any harm in wearing compression for as long as you feel you need it.

Hope this helps.
Terri

My doctor gave me 2 velcro compression wraps I wore them almost 24/7 for the first three months nite and day- I did purchase some lipo in a box shape wear which he reccomended and love them. I am just now getting to wearing those instead of the binder- I have found at first I hated it and now I am so use to having something tightly holding me that I feel naked without something so I am still wearing the lipo in a box and spanx 24/7
