Anyone know anything about Smart Lipo? My Plastic surgeon is planning on using this on my hips and thighs in April before doing a thigh lift at a later date. She wants to wait and see how much the skin will retract before pursuing the lift.....If anyone has had this procedure I would love to know your experience with it...

Do not expect significant skin retraction after this. The consensus among surgeons is that it is NOT demonstrably effective for skin retraction above what traditional liposuction does. While it is unlikely to hurt you, if you're paying some premium for using the laser I'd save your money. I think Dr. Lomonaco has commented on this here and owns one of the machines himself. At most of our plastic surgery  meetings, the discussion usually suggests Smartlipo is a triumph of marketing over substance.

Most of us doing a lot of bariatrics would do the lift first (+/- liposuction at the same time or later) in almost all cir****tances rather then staging lipo first. With a lift you may not need a 2nd procedure, while if you lipo first you've commited to 2 up front.

Just my opinion.

I've had 3 different surgeons tell me it is not all it is cracked up to be......a good marketing campaign but doesn't live up to it's claims.

I did have one surgeon tell me it works great and he made all kinds of promises as to how great my tummy could look after smart lipo.....That's when I knew I needed to keep looking for a surgeon.

Keep in mind too that normally WLS patients skin doesn't usually retract so well anymore.

Best wishes with your decisions and your journey!
