Plastic Surgery out of reach

I posted this on the main board, but I felt I might get some better advice here.

I need some advice from those who have gone through this.  I have lost 120 pounds and now have the body of a 90 year old with all the sagging skin.  I had an appointment with a plastic surgeon and was very impressed with him and the great advice he had for me.  The problem is that I was floored when I saw how much it would cost.  I left his office and sat in my car and just cried!!!  For my arms and a breast lift would be about $12,000.  Then for my legs it would be another $10,000.  I could have more procedures, but we were starting with those.  How does anyone afford this?  I have no savings and live paycheck to paycheck.  I was very lucky that my insurance paid for my gastric bypass, but they won't pay for cosmetic surgery.  I am so depressed over this!  I've worked so hard to get where I am, and now I can't get to the finish line.  Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.   I don't have any family or friends who can loan me that kind of money either.  I feel like I've lost the weight, but I still have to hide behind all my clothes.

I would suggest looking for a residency program in your area that does weightloss surgery patients body lifts.
I personally used tax return along with my credit union to finance what I am having done. It's hard to know Im taking on a new payment - but this payment will just replace the payment for a debt I just paid off.
Pray about it and talk to lots of people - a lot of people on here can really help you! Good Luck!

I saved from the day I had my weight loss surgery for an extended TT, hernia repair and breast implants. It cost me $8,000. I am now saving for a facelift, and to hell with the legs and arms!
If you want PS, search around for the best surgeon at the best price, and also ask for a discount for cash. Tell your surgeon of choice how much you can pay, I did! He agreed and even did a mons lift without aditional money.
Now start saving, put all your pennies and whatever you can scrape up aside and do not spend it for anything! No car repairs, no new shoes, no power bill. The money doesn't exist for anything but repair of your body, eventually you will reach your goal.
No pain, no gain.

Sally, I know you were just driving your point home... I agree with the no new shoes, but when her power gets turned off, I guess she can take her sexy new body and live in the car wherever it broke down?   (Sorry...just got a chuckle out of the image.)

Asking for a cash discount is a great idea!  I too started saving for my plastics starting the day I came home from my lapband surgery (and I had saved up for that too).  I'm saving up now for an upper and lower bleph.  Waiting is hard, though, isn't it?

Have a great day!

Hello JSIL,

I have some questions about going through a Residency Program. Where did you get yours done at? And how are your results? Do you have pictures for the results to share?

Got any affluent relatives with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel you could get in good with?

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

I had the same thing happen to me.  I even got Insurance approval for panniculectomy.  The surgeon wanted $18000 for TT & thighs, then another $17000 for arms & breasts.  I am currently 4 days out from all 4 surgeries done in Mexico with Dr. Sauceda for $13000. (He took off 8lbs of skin & tissue!) I don't regret it at all!  Dr. S is as awesome as everyone says he is.  If you want an specific info, I'd be glad to help!  Good Luck!
