Fran,
Boy do I understand!  I've done my share of crying and being upset because of my wound.
I have a DEEP open wound on my right butt cheek after my LBL.  Get this, it is no where near the incision.  This all formed due to the blood pooling in the butt cheek which was augmented with my own tissue.... I don't want to gross you out but I have a hole the size of 1/2 a hard boiled egg!!!  My surgeon has just told me he thinks it might be best to do a skin graft taking tissue/skin from my inner thighs and filling in the hole so it will heal...otherwise I could be doing this wet/dry packing twice a day for 4-6 months!

Anyhow I shared this with you so you know you are not alone....I feel your pain, disappointment, stress, and frustration.  I am finding comfort in the fact that this wound is not on a visible part of my body (thank God!), and I know in the end it will finally heal and I will still look so much better and be so much happier than if I had not had the surgery.  Sure I wi**** didn't happen but it did and I'm just glad it isn't life threatening or worse.

I've read posting from many women here who had the same problem with the incising where the TT points all meet and eventually they all heal so it will get better for you too.  Hang in there!

BTW- are you using polysporin on the incision line that has not opened up?  I ask because it help to prevent the opening form spreading.

Best wishes!!!  I hope you are feeling better!!!

I'm actually not using anything on the incision. I have asked a few times if I should use bacitracin on the incision line, but keep being told "no" that it isn't necessary. Nothing appears to have spread beyond the original "blackness" which was there when I left the hospital. But I am going to ask again when I go to the surgeons office on Wed.
And, it is so nice to hear that this WILL heal. Might take ore time, but as long as it heals I will be fine.

"No more crying"......"no more crying"....."no more crying".....that's my new Mantra.

Thank you,
Fran

I'd be interested in knowing why your surgeon says no cream is necessary. Every surgeon I've had and everyone I've consulted with always have patients start with the neosporin or polysporin for the first 1-3 weeks....then most move to vitamin E or some sort of Scar Cream.

Hang in there it will heal!
Best wishes!!

There is a SIGNIFICANT difference between an incision-type wound and a "crater"/"hole"-type
wound resulting from necrosis.  It is routine NOT to put anything on a large open wound.  Anything you put on the raw tissue can prevent/slow the process of the tissue beginning to regenerate.

Lora,
I'm aware of the differences between the two types of wounds....I thought the original poster said her wound stemmed from the incision opening up...maybe I misunderstood her post.

She has an open wound and will be getting a wound vac...  but I suspect that she had not posted the update with the clarification when you replied.

Fran,  my cousin, who was in her mid 30's at the time and in excellent physical shape,  had a "mommy makeover".  She was never overweight, just had a little bit of loose skin and got a SMALL tummy tuck.  She ended up having the dead skin issue, then the seroma and then the infection.  She ended up having to have the infection "dug out" with an operation, 4 seperate times after her initial surgery.  She also ended up with a home care nurse visiting her and a wound vac.  It took a long time, but she eventually did heal up and is now (2 years later)  thrilled with her results and is looking to go back from some more plastic surgery!  You are in the rough period, you will heal...you, like my cousin and many others are taking the "scenic tour" through healing!  Hang in there!!!

Yikes, Fran!

If you have oozing that smells, go to the ER and let THEM contact the surgeon.  I have no medical expertise whatsoever, but I would think that is an infection emergency!

Please post and let us now what is happening.

Thank you so much for replyng Charming. I did go to the ER last night (where treatment was discussed with my surgeon via phone), and you can read what they did in my "Update" a few posts above this.
I must say that I still can not bring myself to look at my stomach. Thank goodness my husband is okay with packing the wound 2 times a day. And I so look forward to having the portable "VAC" system put on me next week. My understanding is that I will heal faster with the use of the VAC system.
This too shall pass!
