1. I have a massage chair from sharper image that reclines and lifts up to sitting position but not standing. Can I use this or do I need a real lift chair?
2. It cost 210 to rent a lift chair from a local medical supply company but 349.00 to buy a bimilar one at Costco. Should I just buy the 349.00 and keep it for future procedures or when I get old?

I used a lifting chair but could have done w/o it. Actually had to borrow another one b/c the lifting chair didn't recline far enough to sleep in. It was OK to have but I wouldn't go spend any money on one, wasn't that much of a help. JMO

I wouldn't spend the extra money. I figure the faster you get up and down on your own the faster the recovery. If you need help you could use a walker or the back of a kitchen chair to pull up with. But you could buy one and donate to an elderly person when you don't need it anymore.

I love my lift chair.  I rented one from a medical supply.  It lifts to standing and almost fully reclines.  It was such a help getting up at night by myself.  I don't think I'd buy one, even though it's only a little more, because I think you would only use it for abdominal procedures, not really any of the others.

I didn't have a lift chair - nor even a recliner.  I sat/slept on the couch.  I was able to get up and down fine by myself.  I was sleeping in my bed after 2 nights.

You didn't say all that you were having done (I don't read all the posts on the board - sorry if I missed it)

I only had a TT done - if you're getting more procedures done at the same time, I can't give you any insight....

I rented a lift chair for my surgery and it was a waste of money.  when I came home from the hospital and tried using it, it was so uncomfortable that I ended up sleeping in my bed from the first night.  I was very comfortable, except that my DH had to help into and out of bed for the first few nights.  After that, it was all good.

I loved my lift chair.  The good thing about going to a medical supply store (at least the one I went to) I was able to sit on various ones and pick the one that was most comfortable and reclined the most for me.  I used mine for 2 weeks and it was great.  I didn't have to rely on anyone helping me up on those toughest days.  My bed was just too high and I could not get comfortable by myself.  When I went to bed I had to have someone move pillows around for me because I couldnt lift myself enough and then use my arms to adjust the pillows.  And then I'd lie down and I still wasn't comfortable or as soon as I moved the pillow moved and on and on.  At least on the recliner I only had 1 or 2 pillows to deal with since the reclincer was new and had plenty of soft cushion on it.  Of course as soon as I moved to my bed I had to use a stool to get up on my bed.  The lift chair is more for convenience than anything.  I could have managed without it if I had to.

I thought I would need one after my LBL.  I couldn't find one in my area, so settled for the recliner that I already owned.  It was enough.  I was happy I didn't spend the money, because for me, it just wasnt needed.  Now the raised toilet seat...that was another story!  Good luck!
