Never had anyone check to see if my bowels were awake. The meds slow them down alot but never heard of them sleeping or not waling up. I would keep drinking. If you feel the same way tomorrow call the doctor.

Oh I haven't had surgery yet! I was asking because I know after my cancer surgery 6 yrs ago - they kept me 5 extra days because I couldn't fart! I dont want this to be an issue again! LOL!

I had one surgery at a surgical center and one at a hospital and neither places cared about my bowels..lol.  I think it was at least a week post op both times before I even went (thank goodness!).  Good Luck!

On my first checkup after surgery, the doc asked if I was passing gas... that was okay.  A week later, well let's just say I'm very glad a friend recommended stool softeners - a must !!

Lack of bowel movement or passing gas wasn't an issue for me while at the hospital...well in regards to being released.  Actually, I don't think I've read on here of anyone staying longer in the hospital because of this either.   I can see that being an issue for other "internal" surgeries like RNY but not PS.  You should be okay.
