Hi!
I am new to this message board and am having my 3rd PS consultation tomorrow.  I am going to have a complete facelift first.   My question is, should I have my surgery done in the surgeon's
surgery center or should I go to the hospital?

Thx
Judy

Welcome Judy!
We all hope there are no problems during surgery, but where we have surgery is as important as choice of surgeon too. IMO, your overall health should be the deciding factor. Do you have an existing condition that may cause a problem during surgery, requiring hospital setting equipment or specialists? If not, then you can save money if your surgery is done in office or at a surgery center because the overhead is less. Ask what emergency plans and equipment are in place to provide in the event of an emergency. Does the surgeon have admitting privileges at a local hospital should problems arise during an office surgery, and if so, how would you be transported? I wouldn’t use a surgeon who operates in his or her office but does not have hospital privileges to perform the same operation.  Also make sure the surgeon’s office has some accreditation by an ambulatory surgery accreditation association .  If you are having surgery in the US, make sure your surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Good luck with your consult!

Judy...

that is a personal decision that you will have to make...I would take into account your overall general health, if you have any cardiac or pulmonary issues etc....If you choose to have it done in the surgeons surgery center, I would make sure that it is JCAHO certified/ and that their staff (nurses) are certified in (ACLS-advanced life support (not just CPR).  You also need to find out what happens if they need to keep you overnight.  Most of these centers are same day surg but do have provisions to keep someone overnight if needed..

your physician should also direct you with this, however most of them have a personal financial stake in having it done at their surgery center so keep that in mind as well.

good luck and congrats on your upcoming surg!

Hi!
Thanks for the information!  I must say, you look great!  I hope I have the same type of results.  I'd like to be able to see your before and after pictures.  Take care and have a great weekend.
